I'm something of an expert. It's pretty shitty.

Oliver did it too, I remember his.

But Florence also did a series on ABC a few years back. I think it had to do with overweight kids in public schools.

That is an elementary kid's lunch, they have that once a month or so...the salad and mushy broccoli and cheese are choice(they can't force the kids to take them) so the majority of kids end up with chips and cheese for lunch

2 different BR Catholic schools for elementary and middle, and then Central High. They all had the steamed patties

Ugh.

I remember the rare nacho day or cheese-stuffed breadstick day.. but it wasn't often. I actually remember my mom complaining every time we had nacho day because she hated that we had chips and cheese for lunch.

BUT. We had a few decent sides with the nachos. And our salad bar was legit. Nothing old or crappy. Choice of romaine or iceburg, tons of toppings, and like 4 different dressings.

Whoever brought up the elementary school rolls, yes. Those wheat rolls I loved them. They'd sometimes bring them to our classrooms in the afternoon with a little honey spread on top as a snack.

Haha, that was me. I think half of my game with the ladies in college I learned by sweet talking the lunch lady for extra rolls every day in high school.

I sat across from a girl who was on ADD medication that caused her to have no appetite. She'd share her chicken nuggets and stuff with others, but she always knew to give me her wheat roll

If you like those LA public schools rolls, Donald Link's "Real Cajun" cookbook has a recipe for the squishy, milk enhanced rolls we remember from K-12.

I think it's also probably bullshite that all those other countries' SCHOOL LUNCHES really look that good, though.

Well in fairness that USA lunch looks a lot better than most meals served in public school cafeterias.
