The wife and I just got back from NYC and we ate at Peter Luger in Brooklyn. Their specialty is the Porterhouse, and it was amazing. The sides were great as well, creamed spinach and german fried potatoes. I was also very impressed with their sauce, I usually don't go for steak sauce, but they make their own and it is worth a try. It resembles cocktail sauce, but a little spicy and seems to have some worcestershire in it as well.

We really enjoyed the no frills atmosphere, we called 2 weeks in advance and the only thing available was a Sunday afternoon. All in all, a very nice dinner maybe off the beaten path in NYC.

Anyone else been there?

Yep twice. Great steak, but I like the original Palm better. Better atmosphere, better steaks and better sides.

I went with my father about ten years ago or so and it was good. He's a proud owner of a Peter Luger credit card from the mid 60's. I believe I'll borrow it from him next trip for nostalgia.

Really like that place, a lot of times places like that are more nostalgic than good. Peter Luger is both.

Same here. And grumpy arse old waiter guys who've been there 30 years can be a lot of fun too.

I've been. It's good. I prefer Sparks in Mahattan.

Strip House

We also wanted to go there, but only had time in the schedule for 1 big dinner. We will definitely be hitting up Strip Hous next time we are in NY.

Peter Luger is great. I would usually end up taking visitors from out of town there, but since I lived in midtown I would go for Old Homestead every time. My favorite steak and atmosphere in Manhattan.

Love the old menu choices, "steak for 2, steak for 3, steak for 4"! Did Sparks on the same trip and my experience there was disappointing. I am sure it was just a series of unfortunate issues there because their reputation is better than the service and the food were! The Peter Lugar experience was solid. One of my favorite places.
