After our last grinder broke we just use an old electric spice grinder we already had. Grind up a small batch of peppercorns and transfer to a small jar. Grab a pinch whenever. It tastes just as good as ground to need. I can be a cheap arse.

I've been using way too much pepper after getting this from Sur La Table. Easy refill, easy size adjustment, borderline fun ratchet motion to grind.

I love the marketing approach by the Pepper Cannon folks.

From their site:

quote:

The Pepper Cannon produces extravagant quantities of fresh ground pepper. Decrease the coarseness and crank less if you cannot handle the full power.

May as well say "Not for kids or pussies" like the famous dirtbike ad.

That’s the exact style of our last pepper mill that broke. Not sure if it was from SLT or not.

Cole & Mason. Traditional, clear plastic. Never an issue.

We have had our Peugeot Uselect (that's the mechanism name the shape has a French name I don't remember) for 16 years and never had an issue with it. We bought one of their box types with a large crank and a drawer for grinding for recipes and it does great for grinding lots of corns. Haven't had any issues in the 5 or so years we have owned it.

I honestly can't compare them to other expensive mills but they are a lot better than the cheap ones we had before.

Mannkitchen Pepper Cannon.

It is the only tool I love but would never actually recommend. It performs beautifully, especially if you want a roughly cracked crust to be in the range of settings, but it is just too expensive to actually suggest it.

1000000000000% a luxury.
