Love my Yoder YS480, it’s built like a tank. I get plenty of smoke out of it and can cook steaks by removing the fire box plate. It truly does it all, well worth the money.

I bought a pit boss 820 today and I'm breaking it in tonight cooking a whole brisket for the LSU game tomorrow.
Dude, No. We're undefeated doing whatever you've been doing. Don't go jynxing us by changing up the routine, now.

Drawbacks: Not a whole lot of smoke and it doesn't get really hot enough to set a box of chips to let them smoke more.
That's my biggest problem. What's the point if it doesn't put off enough smoke?

Everything I've heard is you get plenty smoke. If you don't think you are getting enough, go buy a $15 smoke tube.

The more I read the more this isn't really a concern for me. I think you can get the smoke flavor to your liking by trying out different pellets. A lot of the pellets are blends of different kind of wood (Hickory, Mesquite, Cherry, Pecan, etc..). They even have charcoal pellets now.
I'm tossing my masterbuilt propane smoker as its falling apart and trying to decide if I want to buy a pellet smoker in the $500 or $1000 range. I think I'm going to squirrel away $100 per month until I get enough for a Rec Tec 590 "Stampede"

You get smoke and it tastes great. Just not as much smoke as I'd like. But I prefer heavy smoke in my bbq. But it's also much easier to just throw on a brisket and still have some nice meat in 20 hrs without even a concern about the fire.
I was coming from a gas grill, so the taste is much better even for hamburgers.

It does, this was a concern for me when I bought mine so I bought a tube, it is unused.

Yoder is the best brand I have personally seen, but you're going to pay for it. I have the YS640s, and it is amazing.
If you are looking at the more expensive units I would also look at a Pitts & Spitts unit. They appear to be on the Yoder level with different aesthetics.
On the more price competitive side, Rec Tec seems to get a lot of love.

First off I’m cheap so I used gas grill for the last 10 years or so for my cooking and a Ugly Drum smoker for my smoking that I didn’t do a lot of because of the constant commitment you have to make to it. So I broke down and bought a Pitt Boss a little over a month ago. WILL NEVER GO BACK TO ANYTHING ELSE AGAIN!! I look forward to cooking on it now.

Outside of Atlanta, there's a WM that had a pitboss 700 for $50 clearance. I ended up buying it en route home.
I was actually waiting for the Kenner location's price to drop to $200 before I ran to go buy it, definitely underrated for a value pellet smoker.
I've done: wings, brisket, pork butt, and salmon so far and its been far better than my old masterbuilt electric one

They are nice looking, they and Mac and Memphis make some beautiful units that work very well and are light, all nice high end smokers
Yoder just took a different path, a tank so thick and heavy you will blow 6ft of chitterlings out your arse trying to move it painted flat black with a very good controller, it just works.
Just get whatever works best for you but I would advise if planning to move it much where it cant simply be rolled to choose something other than the Yoder.
