The food has been great the last few times I've gone, but the crowd has gotten more and more ghetto.

The most overrated restaurant on this board. Never had a good meal there.

Been three times in my life. Each time I thought maybe they had a bad night and give them another try. Never again.

We will be in town for Christmas and want to get our kids some grilled oysters, what would be the place to go for seafood and oysters now?

I personally think Mansurs has the best chargrilled oysters around, but obviously it’s a bit different atmosphere wise than Parrains.
The bar are tables are fine though. I’ve gone plenty casual numerous times.

That would be Darrell’s or Johnny’s.

If you want just chargrilled oysters, it’s tough to beat Drago’s. However, the rest of their menu is very subpar.
A place like Don’s would be a good balance between both cooked oysters and other dishes, like their seafood gumbo and fried catfish. They do that weird splitting thing with their fried shrimp, but that’s about my only complaint. And I’ve found latest they’ve been too light handed on the old fashioneds. Way more sugar water than before.
I see LL above recommended Mansurs. I’ve eaten there just once, and it was very good, but didn’t have the oysters so can’t speak to that part.
