Few things....

I can't believe how long Andrew kept this under wraps. I heard about this over the summer time. Kudos to him for not having this leaked earlier. People in his building didn't even know until recently

This is all about Parish expanding into other markets. Florida has been on the radar for a while. This allows him to test how his brand will do somewhere outside Louisiana with minimal risks. This eliminates a lot of shipping costs from LA to FL. Lots of trucks heading from FL west but not a ton heading from Broussard to Florida. Parish has a lot to learn on the sales/marketing side of the business but this was a smart move financially for how he wants to operate.

It's commonly known that he refuses to go into any debt which is great for him. Keep making that money. With that said the property behind him has been available for years. We all know how many threats he has made to leave LA so not sure why this move would turn off any core consumers. Has Raising Canes lost sales in LA since they moved to Dallas? No, but the beer world is much different and much more emotional.

His points about cans are spot on. It's not cheap to do it right. When you do it wrong your cans explode like Tin Roof or you have to completely shut down production of a hot brand like Gnarly Barley did with Juicefer.

End of the day this move makes sense for how he wants to run his business. Will be interesting to see how it plays out especially in an increasingly competitive market. Abita isn't going anywhere, Dixie is going to keep spending money, and breweries like Graft Raft and Gnarly Barley will continue to cut into his specialty beers. Wish him luck.

You can thank Prohibition for that. Beer lobby is so strong I don't see how it will ever go away.

Yep, I know the history and it is hard to fight the deep state. But we have seen some exceptions--foot in the door so to speak. I've looked at the laws for clients and talked with the ATC and the Beer Industry League about changes. Tough row to hoe.

FIFY to be accurate for Baton Rouge.

And of course you will. At least you've tempered your Parish rhetoric somewhat. Did your employer suggest you dial back your shots at the competition? Are you still posting your digs while on the GR clock?

Back to OP, while Envie is the only one of the three I ever drink, and having it in cans is way past due, contract brewing sounds risky, especially out of state, although this is consistent with what Andrew told us a couple of weeks ago about expanding to the East. If it helps free up capacity for the good stuff great, but it seems risky to relinquish direct oversight. Jucifer and the Urban South hops can fill my day to day Hop needs nicely.

I don't work at Great Raft anymore, haven't since May, and I buy plenty of envie as well. For my location it is tough to to find fresh local beer and the gas station at the front of my neighborhood consistently has 2 week old commotion in Stock.

I agree, but they will still be brewing bottle/keg flaghsips locally, and I imagine Andrew is going to give a really short leash on the quality of canned flagships.

Ultimately, I think this move makes sense. I just hope we can get canned Envie around here, and that its quality doesn't suffer.

I don't know that it frees up space for more specialty brews, though, since bottle/keg flagships will still be brewed locally. If we can get cans here, I imagine bottle production can/will be reduced, giving more room for production of specialties. If we can't get cans in LA, then I don't know that this frees up capacity.

Nothin wrong with korova, just odd they would pump out cans and releases back to back durring summer, all while they can't feed the juicifer demand

There was clearly a problem with the canning line creating oxidation in Jucifer that was detrimental to its flavor and appearance. The smart decision was made to stop canning it for consumers while they continue to tweak their process and packaging to eliminate oxidation. Meanwhile, they still have to produce beer to make money so they continuing canning the regulars (which aren't ruined by a small amount of oxidation)

I know quite a few of them. I don't have time anymore to trade and ship and shitlord beers anymore. The guy at the valero gets me what he can, when he can.

Sorry to hear, it seemed like a great gig. Are you completely out of the industry now?

While i've heard AA is great, i haven't heard an actual review of DDH Ghost other than "JUICE". Anyone care to give a detailed review of DDH Ghost?

It tastes just like regular ghost to me. The mouthfeel is just a little thicker/creamier/gooey.

This is what I told someone I sent some to. Haven't had one since last week though. It was like 3 days old when I had it

"Everything you love about ghost. Ramped up. I get a lot of melon and mango, tropical pineappley too"

In other words, JUUUUUIIIICE!!!

Why expand ? They will run out about thirty more "specialities" over the next four or five years and he will cash out. Any orange juice flavored shite he rolls out will be eaten up by the mini-masses. Love seeing some douche bags drinking envie and opus next to one another and trying to decipher the difference. It's the same shite. That guy has bamboozled a lot of y'all.

Also, I like Miller Lite.
