Update on my Decade One purchase. I made the drive down to Parish to pick up my small allotment of Holy Ghost, Decade One, and Autumn Shade.
The Holy Ghost is good, but only marginally better than DDH. I’ll give the other few I have a few weeks to chill out. It was very good but will never live up to the hype that I hoped it would be.
Decade One was a major disappointment to me. Paying $50 (some of that which obviously went to a useless box), I was hoping for Fundamnetal Observation on steroids. What I tasted was more like a really good but extremely overhyped stout. I realize that this and FO are not meant to be the same beer but I get FO for $20 and love it every damn time. Same for most of the decadent BL stouts. I just didn’t get the “knock my pants off” stout that I was hoping for.
The Autumn Shade was the worst of the bunch. It was nearly medicinal. Cloyingly sweet.
Most of these beers gave me the same feel as the Star Wars prequels. I’m probably the only person that feels this way but I’ve tried to separate the expectation of Parish from the actual taste of Parish.

I haven’t tried the decade one but I’m definitely with u on the autumn shade. I thought they shades as a whole were bad. All overly sweet and very average

I am but one guy, but personally speaking.. we have enough good beer in LA these days that my days of seeking out the most expensive, "best" beers available are over. I'm perfectly happy with regular rotations released from local breweries (even just those in the BR area) that the return on investment on 'whalez' just isn't worth it to me. I like to bring back beers from breweries in the area I'm visiting when on vacation but that's about it.
I am not even eager about Grand Reserve and the like at $25 per 750ml or DDH ghost at $20+ per 4-pack.
More power to Andrew and Parish for getting people to continue to buy crazy things, though. It's working for them.

Pelican distro has filled in the gap too.
Very nice driving down the street and picking up Westbrook

I didn’t like the Autumn Shade either. I do really enjoy the Sacred Island bottle they still have available.
