I'm going to have to google those things before I know how offended I should be at the question.

it leads me to 17 magazine....bro

And to answer that question, apparently I am staying with the family that owns the copyright to OBX. Uncle came up with it or something.

I usually stay on the southern part of the island around avon, but when I was there a few years ago we went to outer banks brewing station. Its in kitty hawk, decent beer and a good lunch.

If you’re driving, detour through ayden, nc and stop at skylight inn. Some of the best whole hog eastern NC style bbq out there.

Noted. Will be driving from DC so it is a little out the way. Also my passenger can't eat pork, but they can watch.

Definitely eat at Tortugas Lie. It is one of the best on the beach. Usually gets busy. Wednesday night is Sushi night so its packed but IMO its worth the wait.

Pier House Restaurant Bar is owned by an LSU guy and is a great guy to chat with.

Lucky 12 is a good bar with Excellent pizza.

Blue Moon Beach Grill has great seafood and usually has a good special during the week.

Country Deli has great takeout sandwich.

Roosters Southern Kitchen is good.

A little off topic, but if you haven’t been, Bald Head Island (the southernmost Outer Banks Island) is pretty freaking awesome.

When we were there (summer 2014) we stayed within sight of the Wright Memorial.

We hit up High Cotton BBQ a couple of times and really enjoyed it. It is on North Virginia Dare where it curves back to join North Croatan Highway.

Also, be sure to get some doughnuts from Duck Doughnuts (several locations).

They probably have some good ideas of where to eat but here's some recs:

Coastal Cravings in Duck, which is north of Kitty Hawk is good. It is small and attached to a gas station but we liked. It was featured on Dinner, Drive In and Dives once.

Ortegaz in Manteo, which is on Roanoke Island. Highly recommend the pulled pork nachos.

My daughter likes Sam & Omie's; it is near the Nag's Head pier. I thought it was ok.

Basnight's which is on Hwy 264/64 between Manteo and Nags Head is a very large restaurant and gets a lot of business. We ate there in the off season once and it was pretty good.

We did not like the Black Pelican, which is near Kitty Hawk, nor Darrell's which is in Manteo. The locals will probably recommend Darrell's but it's nothing special.

And Ayden is about 2 1/2 hours southwest of Kitty Hawk; it is way out of your way if you are coming from DC. But if you want to try it I recommend stopping at Sam's Jones BBQ in Winterville/Greenville. Sam is the son of the founder of Skylight and they have the same bbq but more selections; chicken, ribs, legit mac & cheese and more. I think he runs both places now.
