I work for a restaurant and we advertised on TD for six months. I've been monitoring this board since last June because it's an opportunity to see what people are saying about restaurants in the Baton Rouge area. I don't post because some of you can be vicious in your comments and I didn't want to get into a battle with anyone. I was tempted to tell everyone when we started serving Firefly, since it was such a hot topic for a week or so, but I just posted an ad instead. However, if someone is looking for a place to eat and you own or manage a restaurant that satisfies that need, I don't see why anyone objects to having that restaurant mentioned.

now to me, that situation is different .. if i start a thread asking for the best fish taco in BR and someone that works at joe's fish taco hut chimes in, that's different ... but come on, if someone is opening a new mexican joint on jones creek and they start a thread about it ... that's ripping chicken off, IMO ..

The manager of Ambrosia posted here? I missed that. Hope he/she saw the thread about their service.

They did, and unless they came back and I dont know about it they were really unprofessional in their remarks. It was really surprising to me that a manager would act that way.

I think Martini responded to his comments.

He said to at least think about the comments people were making towards Ambrosia (hardly any of which were good in regards to their service). the mgr didnt seem like he was going to do that.

Too bad too, their strawberry cake is where it's at.

Official places Catman88 will Pimp in BR.. (Just wish they would give me a discount or something)

Louisiana Lagniappe
Parrains
Little Village
China Express (Only if orig owners choose to buy it back from the picture menu mafia)

to lesser extent:
Opies
Texas De Brazil (just to make people aware of coupons)

Its a short list but a place has to wow me with something to get on it.. Just dont get on my Sullivans/Fluer de Lis shite list

It pisses me off to no end to hear that place went down hill.

Please tell me their eggrolls still rock...

Oh, and IMO, I have no problem with restaurant ownerns posting here. I dont like it when it's the typical obvious advertisment though.

To be fair it didnt go down hill.. The old man just retired and sold it to someone who kept the name but changed the food. Hell the place won an award for one of the best chinese places in the country before they sold out. Damn place was GREAT! I prefered it over House of Nanking in Chinatown in SF.

Some people take what I say as "defensive", and maybe the manager/owner of Amprosia was being defensive about the comments...I don't know. I is difficult to understand intent from reading a post. Not like talking to someone and seeing body posture and facial expression.

I just think you need to stand up for what you believe, keep moving forward with your business, and stay in the game. It could just be a personal decision for him not to post any more on the board...but if he were to ask me, I would say to take the comments as they come, comment back on them with what you believe and Stay in the Game. That is what make this a fun place to participate.

I think that most posters are fair on the food and drink board.

Although, you should probably have thick skin being in the restaurant biz so the constructive criticism here should only help you to improve. In other words, don't take it personally.

How you handle customer complaints says a lot about how much you value your customers.

Welcome to the board!

Thanks Martini...try the Shrimp and Grits next time. We make them with the same grillade gravy and they are quickly becoming the number one item sold.

Everyone has different tastes and if you are in the restaurant business and don't know that you are in the wrong business. You will never please everyone. Just try to please the ones that spend the most money in your establishment.

I told Opie his packaged tartar sauce sucked and didn't belong next to his kick arse fried shrimp and he started making homemade tartar sauce. See.

He won't listen to me about saving 4 dollars a week on buttermilk and just use the pickle juice to make the batter stick on the fried pickles but hell he's got plenty of dough. What does he care about the depression we're in.

I think in Ambrosia's case was that there were a whole slew of people that had the same issue (service) with almost the same problems. So I would hope a manager would see that and see what he can do better NOT become defensive. I really like the place's cake but I garantee if I go and have the same issue the many people will know about it. I really like when a small place can make a name of themselves but cannot stand when the same place becomes so bigheaded that they forget what got them there. Those are the places that people will stop visiting (except for the people that dont know any better) like R&K and Drusilla Seafood and I will say Primo's is heading there.
