What are some of the oldest bars in Baton Rouge that are still active today?

Fred’s? Fred’s became Fred’s when I was in school. Surely there are some older than that.

The juke joint downtown had to be very old. Tabby was winding down his hey days when I was there.

Cotton Club, Murphy's, Longbranch, Library - oh, you meant that are still open? Pastimes, if you classify that as a bar and not just a resturant, is pretty old. Mike Anderson's was on Highland when I was in school and is also pretty old. Fred's was open when I was in school from 1978 - 1985 (yes, it included law school) and I don't remember any of the current bars being open that long.

Fred's opened in 1982. We were at LSU during the same years.

It is certainly one of the oldest "LSU Bars", but there must be some older neighborhood bars still around.

Yep. Fapp’s became Fred’s in 1982. I lived within walking distance of there at the time. I was going to mention the Pasttime if you want to consider that a bar.

Ah the old sunset club at Fred's. Mid to late 80's...$1 freshly squeezed screwdrivers on Thursday afternoons, the deck overlooking the pasture.

Epic times. Friday afternoons at the Tiger across the street with Beat the clock. Drinks started at 15 cents at 3 oclock and went up a quarter every 15 minutes IIRC.

Get drunk, get a big burger at TigerBurger and stumble back to Sharlo and collapse

The Patio opened in the late 50s or early 60s.

ONO’s is pretty old too. Not sure when they opened.

The Jefferson and The French Connection are also older than pretty much everything mentioned. But I think those were both opened in the 70s.

Lol. No. They opened in 1978. The building was built in the 40s though.

Tabby’s Blue’s Box opened in 1979. And it closed in 1999.

I wasn’t born in 79 but it lasted past 99. Hoodoo Natty lite nights were alive and thriving circa 2001-2004 at least while I was at LSU.

He opened a new Blues Box on Lafayette Street in 2000. It was only opened from 2000-2004.

The original was on North Blvd but had to close in 99 because of the railroad overpass that they were building.

I don’t think ONOs was open when I moved back to town 20 years ago. I do know in the early 80s, Billy Cannon’s orthodontics office was in that spot.

I can’t remember if Billy Cannon’s was 652 Lobdell in the strip, or was the stand alone at 636 (which is in the same parking lot).

But in any case, ONO’s is 648. They were in the same area.

Yeah, either way there wasn’t a bar in that little center in the early 80s.

Well the state has them registered as a business at that location in at least as early as 1984. I’m pretty sure that it was there even before that though.
