Just wanted to give a shout out to old fashioned grits, I’ve been eating instant for too long. Little salt and a little butter that’s it.

NB4: CSB, Dear Facebook, etc.

Also, shout out to My Cousin Vinny, top 10 movie of all time. If you haven’t seen it, you’re probably walking around with a dump in your pants. Pretty sure joe Pesci wasn’t acting in the grits scene.

Needs a little black pepper too.
But I still appreciate this post.

I don't care for butter in my grits, but I do like salt, a bit of black pepper and my homemade habanero pepper sauce to add some real zip to them.

Whoa!! Don't be so quick to toss those instant grits. They make excellent wall paper paste, and in a pinch will work as sheet rock mud! While I've never tried it, I've heard fed to dogs, it will eliminate worms!

Butter and bacon will make anything better.

The proper way to prepare grits is with lots of heavy cream, butter, and cheese.

Then get your shrimp, tasso, and other fixins for a proper low country shrimp and grits.

The 45mins spent making real grits is time well spent. I order Carolina Plantation stone-ground from Amazon. Any other fav brands?

Wife's grandmother makes hers with chicken stock. Best damn grits I've ever had, but I will eat them any way they're prepared

Quick grits are a nice happy medium between instant and traditional

I graduated from instant, to quick, to old fashioned over the past year or so. I’ve got some yellow ones in the pantry now that are awesome. A little butter and salt. Maybe a spoon of bacon grease in the pot before I put the water in to boil.

Four downvotes. Four people who've never had grits prepared properly.

Melt some hogshead cheese in your grits and you'll never want them any other way.

Boil a good hot sausage and then use that water with your grits. It's on time.
