Ok guys, throwing a huge party Saturday and the people we are throwing it for requested pulled pork. I'm making two so I thought about doing two different recipes.

Also has anyone ever smoked the pork for an hour or so and then done it in the crock pot all day? Wonder how that would turn out. In doing crock pot because I'm slammed at work this week and don't have time for all out smoking.

I would smoke it for a few hours then put it in the crock pot. You get some smoke flavor and render some fat.

We should have a sticky for just this topic. It pretty much comes up every few days, and all since the now infamous MD thread on crock pot pulled pork!

Not an attack on OP....

5-8 # Pork Shoulder or Boston Butt

1- 11oz. can Rotel Tomatoes (hot)
1- 8 oz. bottle of Rice Wine vinegar
1- cup Canada dry Ginger Ale
1 - 4.5 oz tube of Contadina tomato paste
3- large bay leaves
2- large spanish onions shredded.

Dry rub the pork with your favorite seasoning mix or your special concoction. Brown on 2 sides. Throw in crockpot cover with onions then mix the tomato paste vinegar and ginger ale pour it in add the rest. I'll go 6 hours and it shreds with a fork.

I've been doing this a lot in the last few months and Lucy loves it.

Put the pork in crock pot (cut in half for faster cooking).
Liquid:
a. 5 tb of BBQ sauce
b. two squirts of lime juice
c. two tb of liquid smoke
d. 1 tb of mustard
e. 5 tb of red wine (I keep those tiny bottles in the the fridge).
f. 4 tb of srirachi hot sauce

Put on high for 2 hours.
Open lid, turn over.
Cook on high for 1 hour.
Open lid, turn once more.
Turn heat down to low.
Cook for 3 hours.

You are going to get a tender mess of meat falling apart as you touch it. Remove excess fat globules.

You can make sammiches using the juice or with mustard and mayo or bbq sauce.

I always have leftover pot liquor and I freeze it for use in chili. It cuts into the tomato taste for a great variation.

Edit: This recipe is designed for about 6 people. If you're having a 'huge party' you can double everything I wrote into one crock pot. More than that, you'll need another pot or make several batches.

I agree. You don't want too much BBQ sauce.

Had some the other day. It had a 12 oz root beer and a can of chipotles in adobo sauce plus an onion. Spicy and sweet, damn good !

Poor Guy hasn't posted on the F&D Board since 6/11. His last post was in that thread.

The sad thing is I've seen at least two requests for pulled pork crock pot recipes since.
