T.A., most of those places aren't spots I'd go out of my way to eat at. They are good, but nothing I ever crave. Just my opinion.
I go out of my way for zipperhead food, muffs and oysters, which is what I was pushing earlier.
Also, per Mr. Stella!/Stanley, he isn't doing anything in BR. Austin is next for Stanley I believe.
Lastly, this town has some kick arse food and this thread has me hungry to eat it.

zipperhead food
I'm not familiar with this term.

I think its a racist term against our natives.

Vietnamese/Thai etc etc = zipperhead.
Asian if you want to be PC. Everybody is offended by everything these days. I don't think you can even say "oriental" anymore.
Also, they took "Wop" salads off the menu down here. Under-rated salad IMO.

Not offended, just never heard the term used that way. Thanks.

Rocky and Carlos still serves one as such. I think they may be the last one.

I know...I was joking.
To my grandmother: Asians are "slanties" and blacks are "darkies."
Some places still call it a WOP salad...I still call it a WOP when I order it from R&O's.

I figured they were generalizing DFW. Considering it is one of the places that tons of people name on their "must dine" list when they come to DFW for a conference or something, it can't be too bad.

Pretty sure it's on Mandina's menu as such also. I think it's the Italian (Wop) Salad.

Venezia's maybe? Not sure on that one....
Tower of Pizza is the "Italian Toss Salad"

YA, serious question. Why would a place like Lilette qualify per your criteria, but not a place like Maison Lacour?

Dallas
Maybe I'm a homer, but could not disagree more. This town is huge and can't tell me that you looked very hard for a good place to eat.
I'd say Dallas is like Atlanta in that respect. Of course you can find a good place to eat in both places. Maybe even a great place to eat. Maybe 20.
That doesn't make it a great food city.
And in my mind, renowned chefs and expensive restaurants is not what makes a great food city either.

1. Is Maison Lacour chef owned? Idon't know
2. Was the chef at ML named on of America's top Ten young chefs by F&W Magazine?
3. Has the chef at ML been nominated for several James Beard awards?
Tigre, that was pretty easy IMO.

I have had some great meals in ATL, but I did my research. ATL's food scene has become so much better in the last 10 years...its getting there.

Many of those are not expensive. I've eaten at all of them, so I can personally say I liked them.

tony angelo's has or HAD one...not sure if its on the menu still

family owned since it opened. Chef and Hostess are husband and wife, they are either owners or still owned by her parents. Either way, they are clearly invested in the place.

wait, so now only James Beard type places qualify? that seems pretty silly and would wipe out a lot of both of your lists.

Nice.
Lilette fricking blew me away on my last meal. The gf and I were talking about that one for weeks.
