Not going to work if 7 days a week
oh, I agree
but between chelseas, spanish moon, and the manship theatre, there's TONS of good music in Baton Rouge.
but yeah, 7 days a week doesn't work in BR... it didn't with the caterie either when it was around. scene has changed, bands have changed.
cover bands always do well, and the rock bands like meriwether, twin killers, prom date and other phantom party record bands around town.

I dont know like who. All the local bands seem to be emo crap and all the good music(blues, funk, brass stuff) seems to be imported from the surrounding areas.

Im sure it would be out of town touring acts being brought in. There are bands that aren't big enough to play at Varsity that could still pull 400 people, where will they play? Nowhere because if they're not hipster enough, Spanish Moon or Chelsea's won't book them. So they skip Louisiana in tour booking. People from BR drive to New Orleans or even Houston to see shows all the time.
If they could pull off all ages shows like the caterie did, there's an even bigger market. Kids spending daddy's money? Goldmine.

GD hipsters man. They are def the problem with the BR music scene. I wish it was still "cool" to be in a band and not associated with counter culture.

Red Dragon Listening Room
This venue is a BYOB place that books singer/songwriters. They cover different music styles, but most tend to lean to the country/alt country/bluegrass scene. It's a great spot to catch a show. Most shows are $20, with all the money going to the artist. The owner doesn't make any money, he does it for a hobby and for the music.

Very awesome.

One thing though, it's considered a listening room, so there is very little, if any talking during the shows. But the venue is small and intimate with the shows usually being acoustic, so it makes sense.

What was that place downtown that closed down a few years ago because of the casino kicking them out after the lease was up? They always seemed to attract good local musicians and have a nice turnout.

I think it was America's Pub and I want to say it was run by a guy who is associated with Tipitina's which might explain the decent talent they pulled in.
