Is it best after seasoning the water( i use, salt, lemon juice, old bay, liquid crab boil, but I'll take recommendations on what ya'll use also)to drop them in rolling boil, and then let them sit 20 minutes to avoid mushiness?
some have talked about that and steaming as well here. LINK

Soon as water comes to a boil, cut it off and soak.
Ive never had an undercooked crab doing this

You drop the crabs after it comes to boil, or start with your crabs in the room temp water?

I season the water just like I do for crawfish.
If you don't want them to drop their claws, make sure they are on ice and "asleep" before putting them in the boil. I make an ice water slurry and let them sit in that a little while.
There are a lot of debates on how long to boil. I think most on here will tell you to boil until they are all floating and to soak them until they sink (20 min). But there was an interesting debate in a thread about a year or two ago where one poster brought up some food safety article about letting them boil 15 min or longer I think, which seems crazy.
The length of time you soak shouldn't make a difference on mushiness.

They are more likely to throw their claws off when throwing them into boiling water. Put them in at room temp

I boil crab a couple times a month. put them into boiling water. bring to a roll for about 10 minutes. then soak. never overcooked them. They can soak for 24 hours if you want. nothing is gonna grow in all that salt.

I know people do this but why I ask?

You’re putting ice cold crabs in the water. I assume it’s to cook them to temp all the way through. It’s how I was taught by some old men!

Do not follow this advice. 10 minutes of boil. Blue crabs have a ton of bacteria.
Unless your crabs are very skinny, they won’t get mushy.

I’ve found adding lemons or lemon juice at the beginning just wastes the lemon flavor. That lemon oil burns off at a low temp.
I add lemons at the soak. I find there is a bit of lemon flavor this way.

Put them on ice and drop in boiling water to avoid them throwing their claws.
And of course already stated.

I boil them for 12 minutes. Start counting when water is back to a boil and no soak at all. When it is 12 minutes I pull them out.

OK, First, I brought them to a boil and turned fire off.
Do not do this!!
you CANNOT let them soak too long. Wife said some of ya'll trolled me.(hopefully honest mistakes, though) I let them soak 40-50 minutes after turning fire off. They turned to mush..
i will NOT LET CRABS SOAK BEYOND 15 MINUTES from now on.
This is more correct...

First off, sorry they did not turn out well.
But, nobody is trolling you. Most people said to boil at least 5 - 10 minutes and you took one dude's advice to cut the fire as soon as it boils. You didn't cook them fully, which is why they were mushy.
I'm not saying that it can't work if you cut the fire after it returns to a boil, but that ultimately depends on the size of your pot and how much water you used. For instance, if you are putting 1 crab in a huge pot of boiling water, it will not stop boiling once you put it in. Should you cut the fire off immediately because it is boiling? Of course not. But if you drop a few dozen crabs and fill up a pot, it may take awhile for the water to boil. Those crabs are going to be at near boiling temp for a while.

I boil crabs 2-3 times a month. Season your water, I use powder crab boil, celery salt and liquid. I load them in the basket cold and drop them in boiling water. Whenever they float, cut the fire off, whenever they sink pull them out. The only crabs that will be mushy will be crabs that were dead well before boiling.

We all tried to help but you took one jokers advice even after we told you it was wrong.
ETA. Then he followed up with this gem

This guy should never be allowed around a crab pot.

Some put in at room temp or you can chill your crabs before throwing in the pot. Either will keep the claws on
