I'm headed to NYC with the girlfriend for the weekend, and we have reservations at both for Saturday night. Has anyone been to either, or have any thoughts on either place? I'm stuck and can't decide which one to go to. Thanks.

I've never had the fortune of going to either, but they are two different cuisines. You can't go wrong with either, I promise. I'd be more about going to Daniel because that's more my type, and the location is a little more laid back. But you won't be upset either way.

Of the two I have only been to Daniel. I was not disappointed and would highly recommend.

Haven't been to Daniel

Went to Marea in December and it was superb. Wound up doing the Prix Fixe menu. Everything we had was great. Got the Mela Pera cocktail and really enjoyed it.

Only been to Daniel and was not disappointed. IMHO I consider it in my top 3 in the city.

1) Le Bernardin
2) Per Se
3) Daniel

I'm leaning towards Marea, simply because the reservations are at 9:15. We could only get 10 at Daniel. I get the feeling they might try and rush us that late, but then again, it's Daniel.

I have been to both and had sub par meals at both. But, I really enjoyed Michael White's other spot Osteria Morini (and the octupus dish referenced above is great at Marea).

My poor meal at Daniel was also before he got his hand slapped by the NY Times, so perhaps it has changed. However, I found it to be a very caste based restaurant. Where by I mean, if you arent a regular you will get a bad table and poor service. And the food that I had was sort of pedestrian and confusing.

I think you can have a better overall meal, for a lot less, at Gramercy Tavern.

I went to Daniel a few years ago, and it was very good. It has a great feel to it. It really is a beautiful restaurant. With that said, I have had more interesting food at other restaurants. Is it deserving of 3 Michelin stars - yes. But when I went there, it started to rest on its laurels. In NYC, I preferred Eleven Madison Park (albeit, I have not been to Per Se or Le Bernardin (which I really want to go to) or some other spots).

I have not been to Marea, but it looks fantastic. Further, never a bad thing to go to a restaurant fighting for its third star (and 4th NYT).

Cancel both and get a reservation at Le Bernardin...you can get Marea and Daniel(I've had both multiple times)food anywhere in the world but you can't get the food at LeBernardin anywhere else

Been to Daniel, very sleek atmosphere, excellent food. Being from BR I was obviously disappointed in the portion size but that's a given.
