Must preface this post by saying I go to Nola to bar hop and snack. Really don’t sit down for big meals.

Arrived around noon. Checked in. Stopped at Jumani grabbed a beer and started walking. Stopped at 801 Royal. Decided to try gumbo at everywhere I stopped at. Had seafood nachos and cup of gumbo. Nachos were solid but the gumbo was bland. Talked to several other patrons who had a variety of things and heard nothing but good things.

Bar hopped but ended up in the Bourbon bar at Pat O’s. The day time bartender there is a great guy named Donnie. A gay conservative....that’s hard to find. So had to have my hurricane, it’s a must. So I tried their gumbo and it was pretty good. Talked to Donnie and he said they have really tried to improve their food quality. Now if I was going to have a sit down meal it would not be at Pat O’s but decent apps to have with beer.

Erin Rose....lots of beer. Tried to go to Mae Baileys at Dauphine Orleans but it’s closed for refurbishments.

Walked down to Deanies and got stuffed mushrooms, chargrilled oysters and gumbo. Oysters and gumbo was good and the mushrooms were outstanding.

Next day breakfast at Menas Palace. It was solid. But I want to try Jimmy J’s next time because there is always a long line so that’s a good sign

Bar hopped all day and ended up at redfish grill. The girlfriend wanted shrimp and grits. And it was excellent. I had their fried oyster app. Fried oysters tossed in buffalo sauce and drizzled with blue cheese. It was really good. And of course gumbo which happened to be the best of the trip.

On the way home of course Midendorfs for catfish. Always good but the gumbo was horrible. Tasted like it had tomato paste in it.

Restaurant gumbo is hit or miss.

Next time you are in the French Quarter do yourself a favor and get the gumbo at Restaurant Stanley.

I endorse about 15% of your choices. What tourist list did you get served?

I can't believe you didn't find time for Oceania Grill.

Love this bar but it’s been under renovation for some time now.
