Louis Jadot Beaujolais would be the only wine I would add to this list! This is my favorite wine to pair with cheese!!!

We "discovered" malbecs about 6 years ago. It's great to see so many on your list, but in a way I hate to see them get more popular. Hope the price stays down and the quality up!

I'm pretty sure I've seen the 7 Deadly Zinns for under $10 in BR. Which is probably why I recognized it, always on the look out for cheap wine.

The wife and I have been on a malbec kick recently, I need to try the ones you posted.

Never tried it. How is it?

literally tastes like a typical grateful palate jammy shiraz aged in bourbon barrels. i like bourbon so i like the taste, but i know a lot of people that didnt like it- but arent bourbon drinkers.

i talked to the winemaker when he came to memphis and he swears the aging in bourbon barrels does not add to the abv.

Glad to hear there are so many malbec fans, but I hear what you're saying about the wine becoming "too popular." It will be interesting to watch what happens in the coming years.

I lived in Buenos Aires for five years in the late 80's and early 90's and fell in love with malbec. There's no question that it is Argentina's best red wine and one of the best red wines and red wine values in the world.

Definitely right there with you on the top 5-- sans the Chalone Estates Chardonnay (just not a fan of Chardonnay). I'd probably sub the Louis Martini Cab in there for the Chardonnay and call it a day.

That MacMurray Ranch Pinot really is tough to beat for the price.

Earthquake Zinfandel 2008
Might be a little out of the price range of $20, usually goes for about ~$30, but well worth it.

One of my favorite wines. Michael & David/ Lodi Valley produce some VERY good wines.

Is this the wine you recommended to me in the store(W.D.) the other week?

I have yet to try that roasted garlic, brie with dried red peppers.

3. Seven Deadly Zins 2007

A zinfandel from Lodi, California, one of California's hot new wine regions. Very versatile and very good. A great bargain. Retails for around $15. This was my house red for the early months of 2010.

I've been drinking this one for months. It's one of my go to wines

There are a lot of great wines in that price range, but to make this year's list the wine has to retail for under $20.

Thanks for the tip, though.

i think the earthquake is a little over priced and i would go with the 7 deadly zins over the earthquake. i still have a bottle of seghesio sonoma county as well to try.

the best bang for the buck related to the zinfandel family is probably the marrietta old vine blends. usually retail $10-$15 and change periodically.

Would normally be on my list of under $20 wines, but I missed all of the 2007's & 2008's and I didn't buy the 2009's because I've already got too many wines that need cellaring.

I'm a big fan of the Seghosio Sonoma County and I think it compares favorably to their more expensive zins.

which one made the top 10 wines of the year? i have the year after the top 10 vintage.

also, have you had the stephen vincent "crimson?" it is a cab/ syrah blend that is really cheap and really good. stephen vincent produces a lot of wine, but they do an excellent job with it. good wine for a party or large dinner party. usually $9-$12.

I didn't make a top 10 list this year because I knew I was going to do the under $20 list.

However, the best wine I tasted all year was the 2007 Jonata "Sangre de Jonata." 98% Syrah and 2% co-fermented Viognier. I bought three bottles at $125 a pop. I'm cellaring the other two for awhile longer.

I revisited the 2005 Don Melchor this year and, as expected, it was even better than last year. It's not close to being at its peak. Sadly, that was my last bottle of the '05.

I bought a case of the 2008 Melville Syrah "Donna's Vineyard." and though it needs more time, it is going to be outstanding. At $36 a bottle it was a steal.

Also, I got to taste the 2007 Blair Fox Cellars Syrah "The Dare" last month and it would have definitely gone on my top 10 list.

Those are the ones that come to mind right now. How about you?

Take note of the vintages (the year on the label) before you buy. Some of the wines are highly inconsistent from year to year.

Happy shopping.

Good job as always Tigah, I will look for some of these but always have a hard time finding what you suggest.

Also I am going to talk to Chicken about approving you a raise as the resident wine critic, you are highly underpaid for the work you do here.

FYI-- you can probably find 70 percent of his top 10 at Rouse's; 100 percent at Acquistapace's.

Where is Acquistapace's?

I googled it. Is it in Covington?
