Get out of the uptown mentality and think about the quarter for a second. Arby's, Wendy's, Ihop, Popeye's, Krystal, Subway all come to mind. Remember, the East and Lakeview are included in New Orleans.

I already mentioned some of those, and to list Popeye's in New Orleans as a national chain is somewhat outside the full parameters of the meaning of the discussion.

I also expressly stated that of course New Orleans has many chain restauarants. In fact, as a tourist destination, you'd perhaps expect more, especially in the touristy areas.

Regarding Lakeview, I think the situation is the same as Uptown, Midcity, Warehouse Dist., By Water, Faubourg Marigny, Treme, CBD, Gentilly and even the French Quarter. In my opinion, these core areas of the city have a much more unique, non-homogenous, local restaurant type feel than most other areas of the country, including Metairie, regardless of what (possibly stilted) staitistics that have been personally compiled by the OP.

These are the restaurants I counted as "real" meaning most likely not chain, even though a few are chain restaurants: LINK The list of all the restaurants in the city is in a database that I sold to a national website, so I don't know if I'm able to send it to you, but I can say that it includes any place that serves food prepared on premises, including fast food.

Jung's is a Metairie institution, BTW, recently moved to Magazine.

R2R, are you ever going to add any content of value to TD? As of today, all I've ever seen from you are one liners, emoticons, and insults.

On a more important note, is Tastee's a national chain? As for the only Dunkin Donuts in NOLA closing, it's not like it was replaced by an independent restaurant. It went from a Dunkin to a Subway. But, FTR, there is a Dunkin Donuts in the CBD. In three years, there will be significantly more Dunkin Donuts.

good coffee. donuts and other food items are poor quality though. Krispy Kreme is a thousand times better.

Artz is behind Design within Reach. In same business complex just up Seventh a bit. Great flavored shmears. Went twice last weekend.

Jung's does have a yellow menu, which has some killer dishes. But even the run of the mill American Chinese stuff is fantastic.
