I've always heard 5 lbs. per person as a starting point plus plenty of extras...

if it's a mixture of females/males....I'd go with 7 lbs per person. a 10 lb sitting for a male is not nearly uncommon at a crawfish boil. that's for sure.

7-8 people per sack plus fixins. You can do ten a sack if you load up on sausage and potatoes and lots of veggies (basically a pot of sides and a pot of crawfish) Had to do that before when I already invited people, but could only get one sack

From my experience, it usually ends up being like 3lbs per person. Even for males. At my boils, we end up shootin the shite and drinkin waaaaaay more beer then actually eating crawfish

I hope like hell I don't do this on Good Friday. I've been waiting all season to get home for crawfish.

Holy shite you have some fat friends. But really, I'm sure we've all eaten like that before at a boil, but most folks don't.

Just an FYI, but a good average to figure is that about 6 pounds of whole crawfish provide a pound of tail meat. 7 if they are really big, and as little as 5 if they are small. Throw in potatoes and all the other shite that folks can eat on, along with a 12 pack of beer, and a pound of tail meat is a fricking ton. Don't try to equate it to eating a 16 ounce ribeye that loses weight when cooking. This is raw vs actual cooked output, along with all the other afore mentioned shite you'll eat on with it.

to me.......it's much different at a "boil" than at a restaurant. at a restaurant, i'll order my 5 lbs and be satisfied. however, at a boil....i'll eat my first 5 lbs..........chill with a couple of beers........and then nail my second 5 lbs with ease.

A dick way to handle it is to spice the frick out of the bugs and let it be survival of the fittest to eat.

6 or less everyone gets their fill. More than 6 some may leave hungry.
