Going to Miami in a few weeks and we're interested in checking out the local restaurant scene.. Any ideas or experience with dining in the South Beach area?

Nice so far.. Thanks..Has anyone tried Gloria Estefan's restaurant? I'm curious about it but heard it wasn't great.. so I'd like to hear others' opinions.

i didnt really stay on South Beach all that much... however its def. worth checking it out.
You get this huge frickn drinks and usually two for one (even better). Sit back and get wasted checking all the people watching out. Then go hit the beach up after.

went several times to south beach, around the corner behind the main strip are lots of little hole in the wall stores with delis in them, local peeps making cuban sandwiches and lunch plates 1/3 what you will pay on the strip. Stay away from Gloria estafons place too much $ for below par food.
There are some food trucks and street vendors making really good bites for cheap.

I hope you aren't going Memorial day weekend to Miami..... LINK
The only time I've been was when we were going on a cruise out of there. We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, which was really nice. We went and ate dinner at Gibraltar, celebrating my now in laws anniversary, and that night I proposed to the wife.
Great dinner and great view.... LINK

Restaurants on sobe are great, but be careful about price, they sneak in high prices on drinks and tip is almost always included.
Granted I was smashed after one mojito superball

Agree, had it about 5 hours after the other picture was taken and it was damn good. Old style with the owner walking around keeping an eye on the shop.

Great atmosphere and cocktailing. Didn't eat at the restaurant, but visited friends staying there. Loved it.

I went to Miami about 10 or so years ago for work thing.
Versailles was really good. I had the Ropa Vieja. LINK /
I went to an Argentinean steakhouse that was good -- that was the first time I had chimichurri sauce. It was in kind of a little shopping center on the water.
We also hung out at the News Cafe on Miami Beach. Good people watching.

Also, if you want a typical diner type breakfast joint and want to save some cash...the 11th Street Diner is super cheap, fast and really good.
