Sorry.
Sister Schubert's rolls are a deep south joke.
You'll always find a plate of them at the end of any covered dish supper at church and most mom and pop restaurants. I can close my eyes and taste a Sister Schubert roll (Actually pretty good). Every Piggly Wiggly, Winn Dixie, Walmart, Sam's and AGA grocery store has them in their freezer case. Probably most other groceries across the south also.

There are two Vietnamese Gas Station places (Seafood Express)-(2000 H-39 Just North of the BMW Dealership & 3073 8th street) with wonderful shrimp, catfish and oyster PoBoys - equal to any I have had in New Orleans.
Where all have you eaten poboys in New Orleans?

MDog -- Is the Red Door BBQ closed?

Red Door BBQ
Does not ring a bell.
Wow!
Googled it and found the location about two miles the Meridian side of Chunky River Catfish place. Never been there. What a sheltered life I have led.
I will do a photo essay and post later. Sadly, too busy for tonight.

Have you eaten at Seafood Express?

Wasn't there a restaurant off the interstate that burned down a few years back? I think it was a Chinese restaurant.

Never heard of it. Can you provide any insight into what you ordered and how good it was? Also, anywhere else?

Have had everything at both locations except their chicken. I seldom get fried chicken anywhere other than Popeye's or my mom's house.
Whatever I have had at either location has been good and well worth the $5.00 - $8.00 a poboy would cost. As I recall, they come in 4, 6 and 12 inch options. We usually get a 12 inch poboy and halve it along with an order of fries.
If I was in Meridian and wanted a Poboy, I would not hesitate to drop by either place and try one, in spite of the perhaps questionable neighborhood locations and the no pretense offered gas station atmosphere. At worst, it would be one less than $10.00 meal in a lifetime of dining experiences at a local non chain eatery.
As I said, I have never had any problems at either location and had dining experiences that exceeded my expectations.
The comments I made were originally for arseinclarse, to guide him across a limited number of food options here in Meridian. Knowing he could eat better elsewhere I did offer a variety of places he could eat while staying here.
He seemed to appreciate the suggestions so I believe I accomplished what I set out to do today.
If I were you, I'd stick to places in your area that I had enjoyed in the past and spare the stress of trying a place I had recommended. My belief is that you and I have trust issues, so I'll stop with that.

Yes, but at the moment I can't remember. IMO there are no Chinese restaurants in Meridian, although three or four claim that cuisine. The Thai place I mentioned is very small, but nice.

take reservations?

Reservations?

Yes they do. On a non weekend night they might not be needed. On Friday or Saturday it is a good idea.
The tuna is seared - nice and pink in the middle and good.
Crab cakes have been good in the past.
Soft shell crab is good if they have it.
Redfish is nice - if the have it.
Steaks are good as with most other places.
Chicken Oscar is nice.
I doubt you would find anything on the menu not acceptable. They are a tradition and have held up well.

thank-you,
one more question. Any BBQ places you recommend? local spots only, no franchises.

Not sure what this means. Just speaking about my concerns to the veracity of your claims that the poboys at the gas stations in Meridian, MS are on par with the best poboys in New Orleans.

Seafood Express does have an excellent shrimp po boy. Always stop there on my way thru Meridian going to Monroe every year. It is very, very good. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icondude.gif)

I wouldn't say as good as NO. I stopped at Seafood Express last week and got the shrimp po-boy. Bread was a little chewy, not like a good NO french bread. Shrimp were small but damn, this thing was overflowing with them. Sandwich was better than ok but when I left, I didn't say that I have to come back here again, even though I will.

Two words: Rib Shack

Rib shack is right beside La Pinata.
Never been there. I am largely unimpressed with Meridian BBQ.
