This was my first introduction to Lebanese food, circa 1994. It is still the best Greek/Lebanese restaurant I’ve ever been to, for the food and ambience.
It was a hole in the wall restaurant that sat maybe 30 people. The waitresses were Louis’ Cafe rejects. There was just something about that place. It had the greatest feel and quality of food.
They moved downtown years later, and the food was just as good, but the ambience was not the same.

Who here ate there back in the mid-90’s?

Where, exactly, was it? I vaguely recall a split level restaurant on Chimes right by the infirmary in that area, but I’m having trouble conjuring it up. I have a clear memory of sitting in the split level place watching the Branch Davidian compound burn on CNN circa 1993.

Highland Coffee was on the corner....

It was behind Highland Coffees at the time (the coffee shop expanded into the space later)

I only recall it because my girlfriend at the time worked there

100’ off Highland, down an alley/breezeway. It was at the back of the alley on the left. Kind of behind the old “Bayou” (maybe)

I think I recall that split level Lebanese restaurant too. Mid 90s. Right across the street from Mr. Gatti’s.

I feel like the split level place was a poboy place for a while, then maybe an Arzis express?

Yes. That was it. I remember them serving gyros and falafels. It was a long time ago. Memory is a little hazy. I loved Chimes Street. Bayou, Slinky’s, 80s Retro at the Varsity, Quarter oysters at Chimes. Great times.

Ruston had a place that I think was called "Mediterranean Cuisine" in the mid 80s that was my introduction to that style of food. It was on California/Hwy 80 near campus.

Tech had many foreign engineering students, and I suspect one of them started it. We would order "Jy-Rows." I didn't learn until years later that we mispronounced it, but they never corrected us.

Back in the late 80’s, that split level restaurant was Fast Track hamburgers. It was great. I had an hour off at 11:00 am, before Music Appreciation, in the music building across the street. I spent every Mon-Wed-Fri there for lunch. For $3, you got a meal
