We made some fresh Mayhaw Jelly this weekend at the deer camp. Had several trees that were very full of Mayhaws. Ended up picking around 20 gallons and used 10 for the Jelly. Saved the rest for later

I have fond memories of going to get mayhaw berries down by the river with my dad as a kid. My mom would spend that entire weekend making jars that would last us the year.

An underutilized fruit. For a tree that is so easily grown in the deep south, I often wonder why everyone doesn't have one in the low spot of their yard.

Lucky dog! I love mayhaw jelly on fresh buttered biscuits! A guy that owned the lease where I used to hunt in Angie made mayhaw jelly from the berries in the swamp we hunted in. No longer hunt there and the property is privately owned now. I do buy it whenever I see someone selling it though.

One of those things many take for granted.

They are pretty tart raw, but they aren’t bad. I’ll only use maybe 2-3 jars this year, I’ll give out the rest to friends and family.

Can I be your friend who lives in a far away place where no one knows what a mayhaw is? My biscuits are really boring with strawberry jelly.

If you're ever near Lea's in Lecompte, I've seen it sold there.

I've had the Pleasant Acres brand and it's good. I've sent it to some clients before.

Here's the website for ordering.

Will try that! I've seen it sold on Amazon but I'm not confident enough to order it. Thanks Gris Gris

I always ask for (and get) mayhaw jelly and muscadine jelly for Christmas. Love it. Pretty easy to find at the produce markets.

I have some pretty swampy areas around my place...considered planting some Mayhaws. My dad makes jelly from some at his farm..... but he didnt plant them. Anyone know how much attention they need? Will they grow in a wet, shady area? Im thinkin they could double as a privacy shrub, too

From what I've seen they love wet areas. I have seen where you can buy saplings online.

They are the size of marbles, they’re pretty tart on their own but they make a damn good sweet jelly. Doesn’t get any better than some mayhaw jelly and some homemade cat head biscuits. They don’t need much maintenance at all. They grow very good down here. Just make sure you nurture them while they are small and susceptible
To wind by staking it for support. Once it gets rooted, you should be done. Not high maintenance at all.
