This is true. We have been over supplied for a while and too reliant on huge tourist numbers. Adolofo was just tweeting how bad Sept has been so far so this doesn't surprise me. I enjoyed Maurepas the first time I went early in its existence. Went twice since then and both times were major disapointments with the food.

I have heard Ursa is taking on water. Silly concept and the reservation ticket fee whatever was a stupid idea for this area.

Anyone who thought people from New Orleans would purchase tickets to go out to eat obviously has never tried to put on an event in New Orleans. New Orleans is a last minute town, its a reason it is very difficult to attract bands to play here. Nor granted, folks will turn out but asking them to buy a ticket ahead of time? Not going to happen.

You can still walk in for lunch. Not sure about dinner. I went and only had a sandwich, which isn't a fair sample size to base an opinion on (sandwich was alright). However, I think they really jumped the gun on how much of an impact the whole Paramount development would make. I know it's in the CBD, but it's on the edge and there is not much foot traffic outside leading to regular business. No more than two other tables were there the time I went, and I scarcely saw any pedestrians. There are many more convenient options on Poydras or more accessible in the CBD for everyon working down there.

this september has been rough on tourist numbers from all the hoteliers ive spoken with.

kind of rough through the end of the year is the expectation too. we will see who has planned not just to sustain through the summer, but a bit of a ho-hum high season too. should pick up some, but if you are in a hole already it may be hard to get out of.

August ways gets the rap for being the worst month for tourism/restaurants, but really September is the pits. Locals are all getting back into the swing of school (And tuition checks), tourists are away as no big conventions are around (and their kids are back in school), it is still too hot to eat, and the newness and excitement of Saints/LSU/Tulane has yet to wear off such that people will say, "No need to watch the game tonight, lets go out to eat instead."

Also plenty of recent entrants into the resto biz who underestimate the sheer grinding repetition required to maintain quality. I did have to snicker a bit at the Maurepas guy's comments to the press regarding time with his family. Seriously? You thought you were gonna run your own place and have free time? Snort.

RE: Ursa Major, I do not think the Paramount is the issue. Willa Jean is constantly packed, as is Blaze Pizza. Ursa Major was just not that great, it was expensive and the service was weird.
