What part of town?

If you're downtown, hit up Stock & Barrel in Market Square for the best burger around.

Another option would be Blackhorse Brewpub, good beer and the second best burger around. I honestly haven't tried the rest of their menu yet.

You'll have to pay to park in a garage (Market Square garage is pretty easy), but it won't be a crazy amount.

Same with Blackhorse, though.

If you can find a place to park at Balter Beerworks it's a pretty good brewpub as well on the edge of downtown.

I keep hearing good things about Nick & J's, but I haven't been. They are pretty convenient.

There's also a Gus's Fried Chicken location in town.

Any good bars by campus or on the river?

I haven't done much by campus... Copper Cellar gets good publicity but can't speak first-hand.

On the river downtown you have Calhoun's, which is a BBQ chain, and I think that's it other than Ruth's Chris which isn't open for lunch.

In West Knoxville (almost to Farragut) there's a spot on the river/lake called Lakeside Tavern that's pretty solid.

Not by the river or campus, but if you're eating downtown and can hang out until 3 stop by Prententious Beer Co.

So Gus's Good Times Deli is the old place that UT fans rave about. It's on the side of the Hilton Garden Inn on Cumberland (their retail strip near campus).

Calhoun's is a nice view but is poo-poo as far as food quality and value.

Market Square is the place for a good meal. Tupelo Honey and Stock and Barrel are there.
