Anyone know what chili Lucky Dog uses? I grew up in Detroit and it’s probably the closest thing to a Coney Chili that I’ve had down here. Would love to get some for home.

This is a recipe for the Flint Original Coney Island Sauce:

1 tbsp Butter
1 tbsp. Margarine
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
2 medium onions chopped
1 clove garlic crushed
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp. chili powder
1 tbsp. mustard
6 oz can tomato sauce
6 oz can water

Combine all ingredients and simmer until thick. Do not brown ground beef first. Add 4 or 5 hot dogs and simmer 15 more minutes. If you want thicker sauce, add less water than the 6 oz can.

Lucky Dogs are the sort of thing I just want to eat and not really think about too long.

I'm gonna have to see if I can't find a tube of chili (that sounds so wrong) next time I want chili dogs. I've seen too many people post about that stuff to ignore it.

It's common name is "brick chili". And Chicesi's is kind of pricey for what you get. I'd make my own.

Oh, I definitely don't want it to replace my own chili. I'm just curious about it and want to try it.

I tried it tonight on some chili dogs. I'm not a fan. I think I prefer the Austex stuff. Oh well, at least now my curiosity is satisfied.
