I live in North Alabama so fresh crawfish is sometimes hard to come by. When I make certain dips and sauces I use frozen crawfish tails from Louisiana.
My question is does anyone who lives down there know anything about either of these companies? My local store carries Riceland and Acadia Crawfish Co.
Just thought I would ask because if one company is owned by a bunch of assholes I will use the other. Thanks

Ok yeah I’ve had Riceland before and they were good. I didn’t recognize the package at first as it’s been changed. Sometimes it’s hard to tell with frozen tails but look for the ones with good color (not greyish) and I always try to get the ones that say “with fat”

Riceland Crawfish in Eunice LA is owned by Dexter Guillory and family - I’ve known Dexter and interacted with him professionally for well over 30 years. Probably one of the 3 largest crawfish processors in the state of Louisiana, if not the largest. I’ve been through their processing plant many times.

He started from humble beginnings as a part-time crawfish farmer. He uses very modern processing technology/equipment in his plants, with top of the line quality assurance/ quality control, seafood safety protocols. He provides as high of quality crawfish products as anyone in the business.

Sorry, though I’ve heard of Acadia Crawfish in Crowley I not familiar with their operation nor have been through their plant.

I'm not buying crawfish tails that I can't see in the bag.

Not sure about the OP, but Walmart carries the Riceland brand all over the country. It's my only source for LA tails in Oklahoma and my buddy in San Diego found them there too.

Riceland uses a shitty French company to supply their liquid nitrogen for freezing the crawfish. I don't know about Acadia.

Acadia is good. Can’t remember if I’ve bought Riceland.

I’ll buy tails as long as it shows being a Louisiana or Texas product. Really hate those companies who use a Cajun/local sounding name (Bernard’s), but are Chinese crawfish tails.

I’m pretty sure that Riceland Crawfish is the largest supplier of domestic whole-boiled crawfish and crawfish meat to Wal-Mart. I was told, several years ago, that there only a few crawfish processors in the state (LA) that could provide the volume and quality control standards required by Wal-Mart. Riceland also processes breaded alligator meat nuggets for Wal-Mart.

Frozen crawfish tails are good as so a they are Louisiana crawfish. Be careful, read labels carefully. Almost bought a brand called “Fontenot’s”, Cajun name right? Closer look found it was a product of CHINA. Should have “Certified Cajun” “product of Louisiana”. Chinese crawfish are not good.

Works great in a cheese based sauce over blackened mahi also.

Yeah. Usually a big tip off is that the package will say “wild caught” on the front. Plus it will say product of China somewhere on it. I’ve almost been fooled. Those shitty crawfish aren’t worth the cheaper price.
