What do yall recommend for a propane setup to boil large amounts of water?

I have a 100qt pot already so it would need to do that or maybe a little larger.

I have used what was called a jet burner before but on amazon I am seeing a bunch of multi jet burners that are for seafood boiling or a wok. Most are in the 100,000 btu range.

Yall do this much more than I do and I would appreciate any advice.

jets are cheap but loud.... Banjos are more expensive but quiet......

I bought a cheap Chinese banjo on amazon.... It wasnt at the proper depth below the pot so i had to re mount it on the stand but works great now.

I would suggest the jet burner rigs. Most of them come with a 10psi regulator. I would replace that with a 30psi adjustable regulator from the hardware store or gas supplier.

If you go the double jet burner route with a 30psi regulator, you may want to go with a 20 or 30lb propane tank.

Depends how fast you want the water to boil and how quiet you want it to be. Banjo is slower and more quiet, Jets are louder and faster. Then you can get double jets or more for some more speed. If you do the Jet I would get a 30lb regulator as stated above. Maybe a bigger tank if it will need to run for a while so its less prone to freezing. I am team Jet burners for boiling, banjo for cooking.

I’ve had issues with various of the multi jet burners (the black cast rings with the gold jets). The cast rings would develop holes as well as the fittings around the gold jets. I threw 3 away after trying to replace the jets, they never worked. I still have one that is working well.

Banjo burners are for jambalayas.

Jet burners are for boiling in crawfish pots.

Sure, you can swap them but why reinvent the wheel? A jet burner boils crawfish, a banjo cooks jambalaya. It really is that simple, why change it?

and you tested this? .... I have.. a properly spaced bg14 will boil as fast or faster than a single jet.

100% will make the burner perform better.

It cut my boil time in half. You just have to keep the propane tank (if it is normal size) in a shallow pool of water to keep it from freezing.

Have you tested this with both burners having the same PSI regulator?

yes.

and IMO a double jet doesnt do much....the bottleneck is the tanks evaporation surface. I build a manifold that can hook two 20# tanks to supply a jet and that was awesome. But the jet nozzle will push out what ever fuel you put to it... putting 2 jets on it without increasing the fuel supply doenst do anything.

My issue with the jet, besides the noise, is how much of the heat is blown away from the pot. The baffles on the bottom of post nowadays help but there is still a large amount of loss with a jet because of the pressure.

I got into this because of brewing and was tired of buying a new cylinder for every brew. A banjo is more efficient. I have since gone electric and it is awesome! no noise, boils faster than them all, and costs like 3 bucks in electricity per brew, compared to a whole cylinder.

I have not tested it but I haven’t had a single jet burner. Started with a double and I was about to swap the regulator but got a different setup that already has a 30psi. Triple jet with those channels. It is loud but I am at a rolling boil (11gallons of water single sack) in 5 min. Since it boils so fast it’s supposed to not use as much propane even tho it’s dumping it out. Haven’t tested that but might one day. I’m in love with the 5min boil tho and once it’s rolling I turn it down to just barely on and it keeps rolling. Then everyone can talk again

I haven't brewed beer but I'd assume its more like longer lower cooking? I would probably go banjo for the efficiency over the longer duration and noise like you said.

Curious about the electric one too. I cant see how that would boil a large amount of water faster than gas with out some big heating elements?
