Looking at dinner in New Orleans Friday

The wife has a test to take downtown on Saturday a.m. and would like to go out for a delish dinner Friday night. Please advise me of your favorite upscale casual spots for a special dinner. We are staying at the intercontinental.

what is up with the room rates this weekend? Intercontinental rates weren't so bad but there is no logical reason for the Crown Plaza and some of the others to be so highly priced. With that being said, you need to go look on nomenu.com and click on the summer specials. Many restaurants offer summer menus that are 3-4 course meals for very reasonable prices.

I think the coolinary menu started this week.
Pelican Club usually has a great one.

I agree. N.O. has been continuing to do great all summer, even during weekends where you used to find very cheap room rates. White Linen night and Satchmo fest are the only events I know of this weekend.
We are staying with a large group next weekend downtown and they went up $20 on what they charge us normally for that weekend.
For the OP, I like Pelican Club, Muriel's, and Mr B's for my french quarter meals.
Been reading good stuff about Criolle (sp). It is the new place in the Montelone. Great bar for pre or post dinner drinks too.

Sylvain would meet your goals of delicious and casual. It's on Chartes one block toward Canal from the Cathedral.

I'd recommend GW Fins.
I did the coolinary menu at Pelican Club a couple of weeks ago and was very underwhelmed. Nothing was above mediocre.
I had done it in two previous years and had LOVED it.

I second this recommendation of GW Fins. If you go get the sizzling oysters and the scallops with wild mushroom risotto.

It's pretty awesome. I'm going again this year. Anything/everything for a restaurant owner/manager and plenty more.

Hell yeah. I go every year on Sunday. Republic Beverage and their hot arse bartenders give out free drinks all day. Good enough for me.
Seriously, there is some neat stuff at that expo.

Staying at the Intercontinental? Hell, you're only a couple of blocks from Herbsaint. I wouldn't look any further.

Sat is White Linen Night. 2nd the recommendations for Herbsaint and GW Fins. But, call now for reservations. Tons of people in town for the Expo and Satchmo Fest.

We've decided on GW Fins. Thanks again.
