I'm serious. I love Cajun food, I just don't think that Jambalaya is a great dish. Enjoyable? Sure. But I'd much prefer a good gumbo or crawfish bisque.

And I like arroz con pollo and paella as well. I just don't think they're great. While they might be staples in their respective cuisines, there are much more enjoyable dishes in those cuisines as well. Spanish food has a lot of great dishes. I'd rather have a good bowl of Fabada Asturiana than some basic bitch rice dish.

No one was going on and on about the wonders of Paella. It's a pretty good dish and one of the few reasons to dine at Lola. Hence the recommendation. Paella isn't served at many NOLA restaurants so it's a nice treat every once in a while.

You're fighting Paella as if you've been wronged by it. Look at Lola's menu, they don't have a vast array of Spanish cuisine.

Have you ever been?

Actually I went a few years ago for my girlfriend's birthday. I enjoyed it.

I don't have anything against paella. My dad occasionally makes it and it's pretty enjoyable. I just think it's elevated to be some pinnacle of culinary delight far beyond what it actually is.

i had the combination Paella there. I twas amazing. Ton of flavor.

I have had paella in Barcelona and it wasn't as good. I think this is a more kicked up Louisiana version of it.

Yeah he's being dumb.

Every time I've had paella it's been pretty good.

Exactly

Pretty good. Not something that is so epic that you need to return to the restaurant just to order that.

The amount of time some of you guys spend arguing over semantics is mind boggling.

If you only eat paella once or twice a year like I do, I'm going to order it at a Spanish restaurant..it's not like I'm eating it every week.

Overall I would go back and make the shrimp and sprouts a meal in itself

This is what I do! We each get the garlic shrimp, and we split the crab and avocado (tropical) salad.

We bring a bottle of wine.

We get out of there for under $40.

I don't care for their paella. Kind of bland.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lamb chops with grilled veggies and basmati rice.

Have you even ever had real paella?

Would you consider the Paella at Lola's to be the real deal? Because I've had it there.

I've had it at several other Spanish restaurants and at my dad's neighbor's house (she is originally from Spain)
