I've had blue crab in November but it seemed like it was hard to find. I'd like to do a crab boil with some buddies in early / mid December. Will I be SOL on finding live crab?

It’s a down time of the year for sure. Call some seafood stores and ask. They will know better than us.

Seems like the last few years there's been crawfish available in December....

I know my farm buddies don't usually start putting out traps until February but somebody must be doing it.

I hate to write this, but I get my best crabs from PAC between Thanksgiving and Christmas...

Point Aux Chien - Wildlife Management Area - Small Boat side. By the dams - north dam generally better than south one.

Buy them? No idea.

My son works at a crab dock and although it slows down a little and they get busy with crawfish, crabs are definitely available. My immediate family boils seafood every year for Christmas.

Ah, thanks. I hadn't even thought about going crabbing myself. Anyone know of some good spots in SWLA?

Rockefeller Refuge in Grand Chenier.

I asked my wife's grandpa the other day about crab availability, and he said he can get them year round, but he's friends with a seafood supplier.

Is it even practical to catch crabs off a pier / dock in December? I've always thought you had to do that in the summer or warmer times.

Beats me

I’m not sure where they get them, but I was told they are available year round.

I've racked up at Rockefeller in the middle of winter before. Had to find moving water by a water control structure though (by boat on the east end). Good luck

Reds can get stacked up there in deep holes in the middle of winter also. Might as well give it a shot.
