Let’s talk pancakes

Why is it that no matter what recipe I use the pancakes always come out tasting a bit “flour-y”?
The obvious answer would be I am using too much flour but that’s not the case. I have tried reducing the flour till it’s near water thin and it doesn’t change.
Is it the type of flour I am using? All of these recipes call for AP flour.
I mean this is pancakes. It can’t be that difficult to make a nice fluffy batch of them that don’t taste like shite without resorting to bisquick.

I use the pancake mix and simply add milk. My pancakes brings all the kids to the yard.

So what’s in your recipe?
Try cooking over lower heat so the cook time is a bit longer and using a bit more butter in the pan. What you describe as floury may be undercooked batter in the pancakes middles.
ETA: King Arthur flours recipe here is good: LINK

I’m going with what the poster said a few posts up. Lower the heat and cook a tad longer. You’re likely tasting not cooked all the way through pancakes.

Chattanooga has Aretha Frankenstein’s pancake mix from our little local bar/breakfast joint of the same name. They come out great. It calls for buttermilk, egg, and canola oil to add to the mix. Buttermilk makes a difference, other oils for canola don’t seem to make any difference.

Side note: I've recently switched to buying the more expensive real maple syrup, as opposed to the thick sugary imitation syrup. Amazing how much better it makes pancakes. Don't think I could ever switch back now.

The best pancake recipe ever
Use this recipe and add a little vanilla and a little almond extract. It is seriously award winning pancake quality and super easy. If you want them thick, whip the batter a lot. If you want them thinner, don’t.

We were in New England last year and they put real maple syrup in all sorts of stuff and it's all amazing.

It's been a while, but I think I had the same problem as you. They just seemed to lack flavor. I recall trying confectioners sugar instead of granulated and that seemed to help.
And maybe buy some more flour. Try a different brand. And buy from a busy store to insure fresh flour. Maybe your shite is old.
And buy some new baking powder.
