Will do. I'll try the 12 and see if I like the flavor.

The man who recommended it must have been damn near 70. He had this and a bottle of Jim Beam. His tastes obviously vary.

I also have never tried J&B Scotch. My great uncle swears on it.

Came here to recommend this one, too. Try the Doublewood. Second aging is in a sherry cask which makes it a little fruity, just like you. I keed, I keed.

Chives is a good house scotch for a nicer restaurant

bullshite. Its a 12 year-old blend.
Back in the 70s and 80s Chivas Regal was the most expensive Scotch in 99% of the bars in New Orleans.

Single malt Scotches did not become commonly available until the rise of the cigar bars.

Try lagavulin 16. It's a single malt. Smells like a fireplace. Tastes like heaven.

It's a common misconception that the term "whiskey" refers to one certain taste or brand and that Bourbon and Scotch are a liquor all their own.  Not so.  Whiskey is a common type of liquor.  It is produced and bottled all over the world, each country in its own way.  Bourbon is America's version of whiskey...Scotch is Scotland's...and Candadian is...well...you get the idea.

Not to be a jerk but Whiskey with an "e" is always American.

Whisky with no "e" is made in Scotland and Canada.

Johnny Walker is a blend dude. If you've been drinking it so long it seems you would be pretty familiar with blended scotch by now.

I used to drink K& B scotch with the green label. Any scotch is good scotch especially when you are a broke student!

I used to drink some gross shite, but I don't know about K&B scotch. What is that aged? 5 minutes?

Thoughts on the Chivas Regal? I'm going to try it in a bit. By rule, no scotch before 8. It's a gentlemen's drink.

It's fine, in that group of scotches that are good to drink but won't really stand out, all IMO. If you can find a place with a better selection, you can probably spend the same, maybe even less, on something more distinct.

I'm impressed. Its probably not the best but I finder smoother than JW black. I like my scotch with a natural bite that of course evens as the ice melts.

When this Chivas evens it's like water, which would indicate a pretty decent choice. No objections here.

This is not at all accurate. There are more differences than where it was distilled. Dig around and do some reseatch and you'll see the many differences between a standard whiskey, scotch and bourbon.
