LA Steakhouse and Oyster Bar (part 56 I guess)

Didn't see a recent post about the place so...
I am assuming this place is finally back open. I stopped at a place in Pville today and there was a stack of take home menu's (so I took one).
Nothing really jumps off the menu, but nothing has the "Tuna-tini" factor that KMichaels had either. Keeping the menu simple might be a key to not overdoing it here. Pville seems to be a little less sophisticated then the residents like to think it is.
14oz Ribeye $18, 8oz Filet $27, 20oz Bonein Ribeye $33, Several other steak items.
about 10 seafood items with Pepper Grilled Tuna w/ Caribbean Aioli w/ mixed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes $18
Oysters, Redfish, Catfish, Crawfish and Shrimp all on the menu in some fashion. Lowest entree $14
A luch menu with hamburgers, poboys, soups, and salads. $7-9 including a portobello burger.
Finally, Tuesday .75 raw & charbroiled oysters
Wednesday kids 12 & younger eat free off kids menu with entree purchase.
Not sure when I will get by to try it, but it seems about what should be in this area. Not too fancy to scare people off and hopefully good enough to stick around.

I've lived there for 14 years, Pville is anything but sophisticated. Whatever gave you that idea? Go shopping on a Sunday morning at LeBlancs. I swear I saw Cletus from the Simpsons there a couple Sundays ago.

only reason I say this is because of how snobby the people who live here act. I see it everyday with what I do, love to drop hints at how much they spend on items and how they like the fine things in life. Nothing worth sophistication survives in this place. A cigar bar with a humidor full of cheap arse sticks, 50 boutique stores with no shoppers, But hell, there are 20 drivethru daquiri shops that thrive.
btw, Leblancs is the mecca for this crap. Where else can you get your sushi and you fishing tackle. haha.

Well, I'm a native of Ascension Parish and I just want to point out that not everybody fits that mold.

The worst place to see the trash that exists in the area is the flea market in P'ville. Now you have to realize that all of those people of not just from Ascension parish. They do travel from surrounding parishes.

I picked up the seafood platter last night. It was decent.

Are they open on Sundays? I might try them tomorrow.

Went there Friday night. Here's my review for what its worth.
Char boriled oyster appetizer $8 1/2 doz.... Under cooked and just slightly warm, didn't even melt the cheese.
Crab cake appetizer $10.....kinda small but tasted pretty good.
Filet 8oz $27 ....cooked pretty good but, kind of bland. Not much seasoning at all.
Atmosphere and service....
They were shorthanded, apparently beacause of the wreck on I-12 so slow service would be expected But, they actually did a good job of serving our table. (although there were only 3-4 tables seated)which made it a lil easier.
The guy singing in the corner was a nice touch at first but got loud and annoying after 30 minutes or so.
Here's the real problem....the ceiling fans were disgustingly dirty. The place has be opening for weeks and no one noticed the filthy hanging from the fans? And the people at the table across from us got a glass of wine with lipstick on the glass.
I always give new places a break on most things but, dirty dishes and filthy fans are inexcusable.
overall i'd probably give it a 6-7. I'll wait a few weeks and give it another shot.

I had lunch here today(close to work).
My thoughts are this place is doomed to fail-
The prices are too high ($7 for half a dozen raw oysters, $18 for crawfish fettuccine, $27 for an 8 oz filet) especially for this area.
The atmosphere is very dark. This restaurant is in the corner and has only three windows add to that everything is either back or some other dark color. In this area you have to appeal to families.
The shopping center it is in is one of the older ones in the area and in need of a refurbishment. The awnings are rusted and mildewed and other than Tigerbait most of the stores in it are 2nd or 3rd rate.
eta: Almost forgot, I had a burger and waffle fries off of the lunch menu. It was a little dried out but not a bad burger.

how casual is the lunch attire? I just ask because I usually dress jeans/boots/tshirt and didn't want to get "that look" when going in for lunch.
When Lazy Dog was there it wasn't a problem, but I didn't know what level this place was on.

Wouldn't be a problem.

My wife and I stopped by yesterday evening to pick up a menu. She was taking forever so I went in after her, a manager was explaining the mistakes and trying to change the menu for her. I think there might have had one table of diners looked dead. The manager seemed disappointed we weren't dining with them even though we were in shorts and tshirts. I agree about the darkness, from what I saw of the layout it seems more suited to a sports bar than a nice sit down restaurant. JMHO.

I'm sorry to hear about any problems or disappointments. I hope that you give us another chance. There have been some reduction in price and some items have been added.

We are a CASUAL dining and FAMILY friendly restaurant. Please feel free to wear whatever you like..as long as you have clothes on..
The fans are cleaned....and as far as the dirty wine glass that has been addressed and is unacceptable.
As much as we want everything to be perfect, reality is that we all have room for improvement.

I'm sure I'll give it another try, but man your place is dark.
eta: And looking at your menu I think I know what I will try next time.
French Wrap with strips of steak and grilled bell peppers, onions and our special sauce served on a grilled tortilla

It might be tough to do that, since it seems the place abruptly shut down tonight. I've got it on good authority that the whole staff quit at once. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be funny.

Wow. That's gonna be tough to overcome if you're having problems this severe, this early in the game. My advice, you better hire someone WELL versed in restaurants and PR, and let them get you on track before it's too late.
If this isn't the case, sorry for speaking out of turn.
Best of luck to you, lemme know if I can do anything to help.

Wowwwwwwwwwwww...you had better check your sources because someone lied to you.
Pathetic? hmm...That's all that I will say about that because I don't discuss personnel issues on a message board.
Thanks Opie.

Glad to hear it, if we can put some clothes on we might be over for dinner.
Or maybe not. We tried calling several times to place an order and all I got was the answering machine. Menu and their website says they're open til 8 on Sundays.

Here's the real story from someone who works there...i mean worked. 2 people were hired in the kitchen. one as chef and one as a sous. the sous worked 48 hrs last week and only got paid for 40. the person passing out the checks said they don't pay for overtime but didnt even pay the normal rate for the 8 hours, so her check was only for 40 hrs. the chef was getting paid salary but it only amounted to $5.00 an hour. So they both tried to talk to the owner but he didnt want to discuss the situation in front of them both so the sous chef already found a job, with me. i cant speak for the chef.
