Went to La Boca, 870 Tchoup (old A Mano location) on Saturday night. There were four of us for an 8:30 rez.

The new restaurant is quite different from both La Boca's old location and from what A Mano did with the space. The lighting has been dialed down, the bar has moved from the back wall to a half-moon shaped bar in the middle of the restaurant - great move - with 2-tops, 4-tops spread about the room and some high boys along the front wall, which I thought was a nice touch to give the tables some different height.

The primary menu and wine list has stayed the same, but they were offering a tasting menu for $47 bucks which demanded full table participation in order to participate. It looked really promising so we all decided to give it a go. And we weren't disappointed. Going to try and recall everything we got, because it truly seemed like an endless parade of food coming our way. *Also forgive the spotty recollection as I had been drinking for some time and continued to do so once we arrived.* O Brah can probably fill in some gaps.

x bruschetta w/ goat cheese, caramelized onion jam and mushroom(?): great start. not too rich or filling but it satiated my fierce hungry pangs. also started off with a bottle of wine recommended by the sommelier. who was a gas by the way. charming in an aggressive, drunk, pompous kind of way. at one point he took a bite off my plate, but we'll get to that in a second.

x empanadas - - one was veggie and the other was beef. the veggie one was a little bland but the beef was packed full of flavor, I would have eaten another one had that been an option.

x housemade chorizo / good, not great. I've had better from Fresh Market. Came with 3 killer dippings sauces though (roasted red pepper one was my favorite).

x gnocchi w/ mushroom cream sauce. this was my least favorite thing I ate. It was in terrible need of seasoning and the gnocchi was underdone to me. Although our sommelier when I mentioned that promptly began telling me that that was how gnocchi is supposed to be, at which point I disagreed again and he picked up a fork and took a bite off my plate. Dumfounded, I listened to him reiterate that it tasted right to him .. and he scurried off to wait on another table. We all had a good laugh about it. But I stand by my statement that the didn't cook the flour off enough .. it was pastey and bland.

**the somm did bring us 2 really solid bottles of wine, btw. both around $50 and went great with everything**

x hearts of palm salad / this was served right before the steaks came out. It was fantastic. Nice and bright, not over-dressed. I really liked having something slightly cool with a pop of acidity
in between heavy apps and the steak + sides we had coming.

x steaks: NY strip, 2 bone-in filets and a ?? .. all cooked between med rare and med rare + (mine) and all came out wonderful.

x sides: garlic fries were unbelievable, asparagus was cooked very well .. nice char, well-seasoned and still had a good snap. mash potatoes were on point as well.

x dessert / honestly I don't recall what it was. remember it being pretty quality though.

Overall it was a fantastic meal. Doesn't quite make up for losing A Mano, but the new space is a great atmosphere and they're putting out some really really good food .. and at $47 dollars per head (minus wine) it felt like highway robbery. Will be back for sure. Hopefully they keep that tasting menu around.

No provoleta, no hanger/skirt steak, and no mention of chimichurri sauce? You sure you went to La Boca?

I had that last time, wanted to mix it up.

Ah yes. I forgot they brought us out some of that. Now that I think back, I remember it being a pretty mediocre chimichurri.

A NY Strip and a filet at La Boca?

Were there steaks you couldn't get on the tasting menu? I know they used to limit it somewhat, but you could still get some of their more interesting cuts.

Nice review bro. I'm normally a picture guy but you did well with words. I need to get over there.

Should I stick to the hanger steak my first trip ?

The bone-in file was righteous. Last time I went with 2 co-workers and we all got the more exotic cuts. All 3 were delicious for sure .. but wanted to give the basics a shot this go round. Fear not I'll be going back in the near future.

My favorite chimichurri is the one I had at Cafe Tango in Santa Rosa, but I'm not sure it's more authentic. We eat the Argentina family style dinner a good bit, and we've started using 1/2 the chimichurri as a steak marinade. My BIL's favorite restaurant is Las Vacas Gordas in Miami, so we copy their chimichurri as much as possible.

All three sauces were a variation on a chimichurri.

The ladies ordered the filets. I had the flank, as I've had the skirt several times.

The empanadas had a touch of sweetness in the crust. That was a welcomed idea for me.

Definitely needs to be on the top of your list. Also I think it lends itself well to solo dining @ the bar. I may do that soon if they have a happy hour. Need to inquire about that.

I've tasted 7 different steaks from them and my favorite two were the hangar (rare) and the outside skirt w/ the skin (med rare).

Make sure someone gets a skirt or flank cooked rare. The prime flank really shines when lightly cooked. Goes great with the sauces.

It's got to be as good a deal as there is in town, no matter what cuts you order.

It's a really good way for 4 people to dine out in New Orleans.

Really? I remember the traditional one that I thought has too much parsley and lacked in punch, then it was a cream-based one and the roasted red pepper sauce.

Good call. That was a great batter on there.

Do you remember wtf was for dessert?

It was cooked perfectly. It's such a flavorful cut in it's own right, yet it is still enhanced with the sauces.

I think all 4 cuts were exactly as they were ordered.

ETA:

Yeah, it was a flourless choclate cake with an almond brittle crust and the coconut & amaretto ice cream cake. The choclate cake was awesome. The cake was slightly bitter and the crust gave it just the right amount of sweetness.

The ice cream cake was not in my taste (or anyone else at the table) as it went to waste.

Been too long since I've been. Need to get there soon. And there's no doubt that the tasting is the way to go.

It's a great way to do it especially if you have a 4+top.

I would suggest peeking at the app menu to see if any premium apps are left off the tasting menu. May be worth ordering or asking if they would sub them out.
