Anyone have any familiarity with Kistler? A coworker asked if we wanted to purchase some in their spring release. I am not familiar with them and just see a $75 and up price tag. Is it worth it?

If you like Chardonnay made in a big, ripe California style, Kistler is about as good as it gets. Their pinot noirs are very good, but made in much smaller quantities. In order to get them, one generally has to buy a lot of Chardonnay, which is probably the position your coworker is in.

Thanks. My wife is lives Chardonnay so I may try that. It sounds like I should also snag a Pinot just to give it a shot. Thanks

If be curious to know which vineyards are available in the spring release. Those could be the ones that spend the most time in barrel. I know we can get a handful in Louisiana but not most of the single vineyard wines.

2010 Occident Station Vineyard Cuvée Catherine Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

If your wife loves Chard, get whatever's cheapest. I doubt most could tell the difference between the various bottlings, particularly given the big style. Ditto on the pinot, the Cuvee' Catherine is a wonderful wine, but I'm guessing the Sonoma Coast is a lot cheaper, and it's very good. Try the cheap ones, if you like them, offer to buy more from your coworker next year. People on the Kistler list typically get large allocations, sometimes several cases, and what they get depends on what they bought the previous year. So their customers are often looking to lay wine off to friends or coworkers.

Hyde is a great vineyard for chard, but the kistler vineyard is top notch. And personally, go for both of the pinots if they'll allow. Their reds are awesome but like it was mentioned before much harder to get.

Ok so we requested one bottle of the Sonoma Coast Pinot and one of the Trenton chard. I can't fathom spending 150+ on two bottles of wine, but I will give it a shot. Thanks for the input. If any of you chaps who know so much want I am sure I could order on your behalf (provided you live in BR/Ascension).

Thanks for the offer, but Kistler's not really my style. I hope you enjoy them, when you get them, please post your impressions.

Will do thanks. I am still trying to find "my style". I enjoy sampling a lot of things. If you have any favorites feel free to share and I can add them to the "to try" list.
