Just When I thought they couldn't F-UP Chimes Highland Any More...

Since last summer when the restaurant shut down for 3 weeks, the Chimes Highland has operated with less tables in the main dining area and the upper deck project is still in the construction stage. I wonder how much revenue was lost during football season?
Went last night, and entered the main dining room from the old single door on the corner of Highland and Chimes. It's been a while since I've seen that door open. The 'old' main entrance double doors are for the bar side only.
The main dining room is walled off from the old lobby. Yep, you're trapped in the dining are where the only means of escape is the single door entrance (I guess the kitchen has an outside door).
We were told that a new set of stairs is being built behind the wall that will lead to the second level. No one had any idea when the upper level would be open to customers.
Well, I guess change will always happen. Although, even after shutting down for 3 weeks they did nothing to the old floor (didn't even repair some of the broken tiles). Probably an asbestos thing. The modern plywood decor is Livingston Parish trailer park chic and does steal from the old charm. Sill enjoy the food and beer. I'll be glad when all the construction is over, that's all.

When Tim died, the entire Barco operation lost the heart and soul of the operation. He was the brains of anything they set out to do.
With that said, you can bet that when everything is said and done, what they come back with will have been worth the wait.
ETA: Like the old saying goes, “Do you want it done quickly Urr, or do you want it done right?”

Brings back memories of that being the main entrance, before they expanded... back when they didn't have a waiting list and people would just hover by your table if looked like you were getting the bill..

I went in the other day and it wasn’t a Rexall drug store any more!!!!
But the food was good.

It's the chimes. It's not a culinary Jewel of either classics or innovation
Lighten up, Francis.

the old door on the corner
Good times back in the late 80's. Danced many a many dance to Marcia Ball playing there, when the corner door was the front door, and the Varsity was totally separate next door.
Was in there with a group for a lunch about a month ago for the first time in about 15 years, and was disappointed with the fit and finish of the place. Hope they see it through to a better final product quickly and not drag it out. Too long "under construction" can have negative effects.

Of course there was the inevitable interruption and lull in the action in the Chimes world after Tim passed. Yes, he was the f'ing Man. But he had great management and family in place to pick up the ball and run with it.

No doubt about this.

I didn't realize I questioned the cuisine in the OP.

It was an innovative musical/culinary combo. I think the Chimes/Varsity tandem could make it in any city. The whole set up is awesome.

As long as they don’t toss anyway my $5 name engraving that I paid $600 plus for with my student loan money to go around the World back in 2004 I’m all good with The Chimes.

It’s the fricking chimes, not some world renowned restaurant. Sorry the atmosphere during remodeling wasn’t up to your standards

I’ve never been a huge Chimes fan but that’s mostly due to me no caring for the ambiance of Chimes East. And while the food has always been okay, it’s never made me want to return often.
That said, my wife and I are at the original Chimes a few weeks ago and the fried drum poboy special was delicious.
