Sure you can.. Did it two weeks ago.. Basically the skin wont be crisp but the chicken will be super tender.. The bones even get limber. You can just throw some onions, celery and carrot in the pot and put the chicken in there with a little liquid (like 1/4 cup of your choice) and let it cook for about 8 hours..

You can 'bake' a whole chicken in a crock pot by balling up aluminum foil and placing the balls in the bottom of the pot to set the chicken on. Keeps it up and out of the grease. Just wash it, pat it dry, season to taste and place on the alum. foil balls. Turns the crock pot into a mini oven.

Intresting might try that..I've something like that using whole onions. But the onions cook down to nothing.

Its an interesting idea but I dont really want to use my crockpot as an oven.. I would roast the chicken if that was my goal.

Did the whole chicken in a crock pot thing yesterday.

I put about a/3 cup of chicken broth, some chopped onions, garlic, salt, pepper and baby carrots in the pot. Seasoned the chicken inside and out with salt and pepper.filled the cavity with half a lemon, onions, garlic and chopped up bacon. Cooked it on low for roughly 9 hrs. Pretty much had to scoop the thing out with a spoon it was so tender...very tasty. The broth and the juices from the chicken made a nice gravy. With a lil hint of lemon in the gravy. Simple and tasty. I think I'll play around with this idea some more in the future.

Re: whole chicken. Crock Pots come in different sizes. My first one was too small for a whole chicken. When it wore out after 20 years I got a larger one and it's great for a large chicken along with onions, carrots and whatever else I want to throw in. It's over 10 years old and works great.

I generally take all those juices and make a chicken stock with it.. Skim the fat and you have a great concentration of flavor.

Brown turkey necks with onions in the oven. Deglaze with water/stock/whatever liquid you want. Simmer all day in crockpot. gooood.
