I am pumped, got it as a wedding gift. What's even better is my uncle called and said he wants to get us a green egg. I am pumped.

I don't like charcoal but I will love a green egg. Also having the option between propane and the Green Egg every time I grill will make me feel like an OT baller even though I am poor.

Any of y'all grill with this?

I should have said I prefer a gas grill, but I will happily eat food prepared with a charcoal grill.

I was just kidding around. Gas is super convenient, and that's definitely a nice setup you got. Congrats.

Do you prefer food cooked on a gas grill over a charcoal?

Yeah, but only by a small margin. I don't turn my nose up at charcoal grill food or anything.

I've had mine for several years and love it. I also have the Akorn, for $300 it's a winner too !

Interdasting. Haven't heard many people say that before.

Fwiw I smoked a butt on a Weber Genesis propane grill this past weekend on account of it's all my buddy has at his lake house. Put some wood chips in a foil pan and had a pan of water. It worked ok.

Yep most will say charcoal. I've got the WEber mostly for the quick meals. I've got a Weber Smokey Mountain for the long smokes, and a Portable Kitchen for charcoal cooking.

Smoking isn't exactly what the Genesis is made for, in all fairness.

I can't say I prefer one over the other. I don't necessarily like that charcoal flavor all the time. Sometimes is better, sometimes, not. I cook with a well seasoned Weber gas grill. My next purchase will probably be a WSM.

Oh I know. I was just throwing that out there. I have 2 gas grills and 3 charcoal grills/pits. I use em all.

I have a Genesis E-330 and a WSM I am also waiting on a Kamado Joe to come off back order. It will be a good combo but more so to use grill for real quick cooks and Kamado for most everything else. My wife worries that I wont use my gas grill anymore which I just got 2 years ago.

That said... gas over charcoal?? really?

Really. Fact is, some people prefer it that way. You can cook an excellent meal without the charcoal flavor. In fact, if you name a fine dining restaurant that uses charcoal to cook their beef/chicken/seafood, I will name 5 that don't use it...

I love Tobasco, but I don't put it on everything. Don't get me wrong, I love charcoal, as well, but to say that somebody else is wrong for not preferring charcoal over any other method of cooking is not right.

I'm not saying its coal or nothing.. Just odd that they prefer gas over coal for flavor. If I don't want that flavor on a dish I cook on my stove. My stove gets more use than my grills. My gas grill is great for a quick high heat meal. With meals like that you typically are not going to incorporate a whole lot of extra flavor from an outside source no matter what you use. So I'm not sure if the preference is based on convenience or flavor or lack of a certain flavor.

Fine dining is a little different than the kind of cooking we're talking about here though.

For backyard burgers, chicken, skewers, etc. I don't see how anyone would not prefer charcoal to gas outside of convenience.

Not any different if you consider Ruth's Chris, Capital Grille, etc... fine dining.

I like to experiment quite a bit. I often don't want that charcoal flavor if I'm seasoning/marinating/saucing the meat.

Truth be told, the difference isn't that much.
