Fried is not my preferred way of eating oysters either, so I hardly feel like I'm missing out.

I was moreso talking about head cheese. I slurp oysters straight from the half shell

Isnt the point of a cracker on these things, is the contrasting textures?

Croutons/salads.
Toast/french onion soup
fried onions/ green bean casserole
Fried batter/just about everything.

A cracker mutes the flavor of what I'm eating. And in the case of raw oysters, it also dries the texture of an otherwise succulent mouthful. Who wants a crunchy raw oyster anyway? Are you kidding me?
My first raw oysters were shucked by my father from a sack of oysters in our garage. I was probably 10 or so, but to encourage us kids to try them, he offered them on saltines, with an optional dash of Tabasco. I loved them! And although I don’t eat them on crackers anymore, it’s because of carbs, not because crackers aren’t good. Don’t get me wrong, I love raw oysters without any accoutrement, but saltines enhance them, as far as I’m concerned. A briny, juicy oyster atop a salted, crisp saltine? Heavenly.

Does peanut butter get muted by a saltine? Does a piece of good cheddar? I’m not a hog head cheese aficionado, but isn’t it kind of rich? A saltine sounds like a great contrast, both taste wise and texturally.

Do you like ice cream with stuff in it or ice cream without? Do you like croutons in your salad or sprinkled over creamy soups?

Cajun rice and gravy is great, but if I’m having some, I need contrasting texture and acid, like pickled green tomatoes, or chow chow to go with it. Smooth peanut butter is okay, but extra crunchy is my jam. <— See what I did there? Maybe other people also feel like the crunch enhances the experience.

I don't see the contrast - it's crunch + crunch

Toast/french onion soup
Point of the toast is to soak up soup, like a French Dip sandwich

Uhg!

Not a fan of fried seafood except for soft-shell crab on a poboy (fried crawfish and fried oysters are about the worst way to prepare those items IMHO) Fried chicken is good, I admit.

Crackers do not improve HHC or raw oysters. As said above, they're for teaching children how to eat a couple of foods with a weird texture for kids.

Pickles on rice and gravy? NEVER!
Peanut butter? You're joking, Darla.

Have you tried it? Don’t be closed minded. Pickled green tomatoes and/or chow chow are great with rice and gravy. But it’s the contrast of the acid and bite with the other stuff that makes it work. For me, at least.

And if you thought I meant that peanut butter goes with rice and gravy, then I didn’t communicate well.
