Beer - directly behind the Hilton is a Bulldog Beer Pub - same owners as NOLA & BR.

Steaks - Shapley’s 1.0 mile from Hilton - get the filet

Great area - Fondren has great restaurants, atmosphere & beer / wine bars all within a walking distance.
Walkers - fine dining
Babalu - casual dining
Caets - Wine bar & tapas
Fondren Public - beer pub
Plenty more same walking area - cheers

Ended up getting to town a lot later than expected. I went to the Babalu because it was still open. The shrimp tacos and the pork belly tacos were my favorite. The carnitas were also good and so was the guacamole. Also like the blackened redfish taco. It was reasonably priced also. Pretty eclectic spot.

Coater - went to Mother's Bistro last night. I had a great meal. I've been meaning to try it ever since you mentioned it last year.

Babalu is expanding rapidly throughout the southeast. Do you feel Babalu would be a good fit for BR?
Where would you locate in BR or the metro area?

Cheers -

Shipley Donuts in Flowood for breakfast. Best donuts in the world, even better than Mary Lee.

I normally love your posts. That said, Shapleys (shitleys) was one of the most hilariously horrible dining experience of my life. They should literally be embarrassed to sell food

Mama Hamil’s is the best bang for your buck but I haven’t been there since 2011. $8.95 all you can eat. I use to love that place.

Not doubting you had a bad meal but your experience is an outlier. I’ve eaten there many times and it has always been fantastic. I honestly can’t remember a bad experience

To each his own I know. My wife and I literally laughed at how bad this place was. The server rolled her I eyes as if to say, yeah, I know

Teach me to recommend a place where I have never had a questionable meal.

Oh well. He spent a lot of money on a bad steak.

Sorry Bro. My bad.

Manship Pig and pint Walkers Cantina laredo Caet Saltine Babalu

all those plus:
Lou's
Anjou
Kathryn's

I've been on a Lou's lunch kick lately.

also add Parlor Market if you want fine dining. It's downtown though. There's a new restaurant downtown in the Westin hotel called Estelle. Anybody been yet?

Bars with good drinks, I would say Barrelhouse, Cantina Laredo, Babalu, Bulldog *for beer*,

Ely's or Kathryn's for steak. Kathryn's is also good if you like a live band playing mustang sally while you eat.

Mama Hamil's if you want a southern cooking buffet.

Parlor Market was sold to Derrick Emerson of Walkers Drives-In. The new restaurant is Italian.
The former chef of Parlor Market is now the chef @ The Westin - Estelle.

Lou's is great. My daughter was at Milsaps (graduated in December) and we spent a lot of time in Jackson on weekend visits. We love dining out and with the help of Coater we did some serious research of the dining scene up there. Lou's ended up being our favorite "go to" spot.

I've heard good things about Lou's as well. What's some good things from there?
