I think my favorite region/palate preference is Campbeltown.

Port Charlotte 10 is one of my favorites. So is Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10 & Quarter Cask, Kilchoman Machir Bay and Bowmore 15. All are Islay malts. I love the smoke, peat, funk, seaweed, iodine, oil, licorice, leather and salt that you get from these island malts. Just as good, but maybe a little more subdued are malts from Talisker and Highland Park.
If I want a tame malt that is more sweet and floral (and affordable), I go for a Glen Morangie (10, Lasanta or Quinta Ruban) or a Glenfarclas 10 or 12.
Don't give up on scotch. It is the best spirit. Just got to find your favorite dram.

Laphroaig
Is great to have from time to time.
Is a chore to have consistently.
Get a pour of stagg Jr. And a pour of laphroaig 10 cask strength.
Drink the stagg. Then try the scotch.
You'll realize just how light and honey like laphroaig is.
