Is Oban 14 Year Old Scotch Good For Someone New To Scotch
Yes.
It is one of the classic malts of Scotland and a staple in any whisky bar worth anything
It is not as nuanced as some other Scotches but you’d be hard pressed to find a better one for people just getting into scotch.

Oban 14 is good. It is really peaty though so you'll know if a heavy peat scotch is something he likes right away, lol
For the record, Oban is generally considered to be “lightly peated”. Not even close to most of the Islay Whiskies (Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Laphroaig etc)
Oban is a good intro to peat without being overpowering. That’s part of why it is a great Scotch for newcomers.

Ardbeg an AO
At first it was too much, I hated it. But it kept calling to me.
It's a beautiful whisky.
Have you had other Ardbgegs?
An Oa is good but probably lower tier of their range.
Uigeadail and Corryvrekan are much better in my opinion. I even like the 10 (their base model if you will) more than An Oa.
And I do like An Oa.

Thanks for all the replies. My buddy is a bourbon drinker, so I told him to give it some time before he gives up on it.
Dalwhinnie 15 and Auchentoshan 3 wood might be other good ones if your friend is a bourbon guy looking to move into Scotch.

I am a scotch hater, and I kinda liked Oban.
