I fricking hate Cane's and am not taking up for them, but had a friend who worked there in HS and she told me they had to "drop" the chicken with every new order. If you made more chicken than needed for people in line, the leftovers got thrown out and were not saved for the next person to come into the line.

This. I "dropped" chicken for a few years in undergrad and i can tell you that it is pretty much cooked to order. Whoever drops chicken gets a count from the front and drive through. I used to estimate based on those numbers and i guess i had a good feel for how much to drop. Once any chicken or fries are not hot and suitable for serving it is supposed to be dumped into the waste container and the shift manager does a cost calculation at the end of the shift. I always remember management telling us that Canes was meant to be "quick service - not fast food". This was the way back in the day before Canes started to franchise out of state; dont know how things have changes since then. I for one would rather wait for blistering hot chicken than get served cold chicken quickly.

seems like a waste of money and food to just toss out chicken like that
They more than make up for that with what they charge for the chicken that is served.

Don't they use the whole loophole where it has to hit a certain temp to be technically "frozen" and that's why they can advertise it as non-frozen?

It's awful. And I'll admit.. the smell is deceiving. You think you want it, but no.

I feel the same with Hooter's. It's not that the taste is so bad or anything.. it's the grease. I feel so bad afterwards that it makes me not even like the food anymore.

I have an iron clad stomach and as soon as I finished eating Cane's it was like "WTF?" I would rather eat the worst Popeye's covered in a jalapeno sauce.

Much smarter business model this way. And it's not as if Canes takes all that long anyway, especially when you know it's not waiting because the workers are lazy like at Popeyes.

It's kept below 32 degrees, but it's not frozen solid...may have ice crystals on the outside but that's it.

ETA: On the truck, that is. Once it's in store it's kept warmer, especially while marinating.

and everybody here thinks todd is such a genius, but there's a chain in florida called zaxby's that's the exact same thing, same sauce and everything

This. Also, there's a Gutherie's chain in Alabama that's the same thing as Zaxbys and Cane's.

Huh?

I can see dislike or "meh" but hate for that product seems a bit strong.
