I'll have an afternoon off in the near future and want to explore some authentic Asian food. I was only there once, which was over fifteen years ago and ended up at some random Pho shop.

Any thoughts as to places that I should check out? I'd love to check out a fish market, especially if they prepare cooked dishes. I have a friend who swears by Crawfish and Noodles. Suggestions?

That sort of place is just what I'm looking for. I've just checked out the
menu.

Would definitely be down for some duck. Are there any places that specialize in duck?

I haven't explored as much as I would like but I try to hit something up after rounds at sharpstown.

Every mike Tran restaurant I’ve been to has been good. In order Night market> tiger ramen>main>aka>blackdog

I've haven't done the Korean place but I am sure it's quality just based on the rest of his spots.

Dont sleep on the H-mart vendors.

Fufu restaurant is good

Saigon pagolac’s meat plate is worth a trip

Pho binh

Mala is well worth trip. If you like mala, pepper twins is great and there are several locations popping up. Prepare for addicting levels of spice

Bring cash to the more asian spots. The newer places take card but a lot of them are cash only

Kim Son for vietnamese buffet

Nam Giao hard to describe, but it's basically small vn dishes...really good imo

Bo Ne Houston for kick-arse vn steak, eggs and salad

Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong prob the city's best BBH

Pho Dien >>> Pho Binh

Mala is great - get the spicy crispy chicken, dan dan noodles, twice cooked pork, mala crispy beef, house special cold noodle, green beans, red oil wonton/dumplings

Don Cafe are good in a pinch for sandwiches and other items - cash only

Fufu is ok, i prefer Mein (Dire Wolf mentioned Mike Tran restaurants) for chinese cuisine

Sinh Sinh and Tan Tan can be interchangeable for decent viet/chinese fare

Night Market > Thai Spice > Tony Thai in terms of thai cuisine

Try Thien Thanh for some authentic vn banh cuon - cash only

Faith Com Grill for legit rice and pork chops

Keun Noodle House for spicy beef noodle soup

Xiong's Cafe or San Dong for Dumplings (steamed or pan fried)

Jasmine > Saigon Pagolac in terms of Beef 7 ways - get the fish if you go to Jasmine

Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot for family style hot pot

Shabu Zone for individual hot pot

Lee's Sandwiches for their Coffee (don't get anything else) - cash only unless you spend more than $10

Parisian Bakery for sandwich and pate chaud

Tiger Den for decent ramen - try their dipping ramen (Spicy) and their yakitori is excellent

Nguyen Ngo for excellent sandwiches - they can also put your shite in a croissant - cash only

Phanh Ky for excellent hu tieu noodles (i get em dry with the browning sauce) - cash only

Banana Leaf Malaysian fare, get the roti with curry

Dim Sum is pretty interchangeable imo, some are better than others at certain dishes but i don't find any one that much better than the others

Fung's Kitchen Kim Son Ocean Palace HK Dim Sum Arco

One Dragon for pretty good soup dumplings

Desserts

Red Circle for excellent ice cream - u might have seen them on national news recently, they are the purveyors of the crawfish ice cream

Gelato Cup for the best damn pistachio ice cream on the planet

Aqua S take the kids here for cotton candy wrapped around soft serve ice cream

Juice Box for shaved ice (though im partial to just getting their fruit tea)

Nu Cafe for more shaved ice and other goodies

Bambu for really unique takes on vn desserts and drinks

85C Kamalan Tous Les Jours Six Ping each of these bakeries has some really good dessert options

Boba Tea

Partial to Sharetea but TeaTop 7 Leaves Gong Cha Long Coffee - stay away from Kung Fu, they are terrible

i'll update this later for more

Awesome research. Thank you!

Was just checking out pics from Mala. This place looks very enticing and I'll probably end up there.

I'm sure there's killer pho in Houston, but that's something I can get most anywhere.

Blood curd, crispy and spicy pig intestines, duck cracklins...yes please.

The Egg is legit, I can +1 his recommendations as I used to live in the house area. I would add House of bowls for Cantonese. Also, get the boiled fish or beef at Mala.

Any word on Ocean Palace?

MENU

They seem to have a lot of interesting and unique items that others don't have, although their regular items seem pricier. The more exotic things on the menu are listed as "market price", understandably so, but it's difficult to gauge how much of a hit my wallet will take. I love geoduck clam but can't find it here anywhere. Horinoya in New Orleans used to carry it, but they're closed now. Also, live scallop, razor clam, and live spot prawn sashimi with fried heads sound absolutely appealing.

Fungs is a legendary Houston spot. Best Peking Duck you'll find. Marvin Zindler used to eat there all the time
