Improved air flow on green egg

I was getting the egg cleaned up for an all day cook tomorrow and decided to snap a pic of a small modification I made, and share with the board. I cut out a piece of expanded metal that sits just above the grate and vent holes in the fire box. This keeps the coals from clogging up the vent holes. I've found it much easier to hold temps for long cooks since I started using it. The improved air flow also allows for very high temp cooking, although I don't do much of that. Just thought I'd share, and interested to hear of any other mods you guys have made.

Looks like a nice mod.
I haven't had a problem holding temps or getting it really hot since I started to sort my lump charcoal. Sort out the bag into large medium and small, then stack the coals in that same order.
I keeps the air flowing nicely just like your mode does.

That's the exact reason I did it. Didn't really care for sorting through a bag of coals, then carefully stacking them. Now I just open a bag of coals and dump some in.

I bought one of those from a guy in St. Louis but it replaces my iron grate, it doesn't go on top of it.

Solid modification there. I bought a kick ash basket which kinda serves the same purpose.

Good idea bet it works.,I've found that when puting the lump charcoal in Reach into the bag and grab with two hands then put in the BGE instead of dumping it in. Repeat until right level. Makes a difference in burn as fewer little pieces and no dust to clog the vents.

Well this is just pure genius! I've had the same problem with the holes getting clogged up on long cooks. I will do this asap, thanks.
