Let's pretend for a second that I actually said as much. Name something that was like Peche before it opened. Or Butcher. Or MoPho.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel. But to try and prop up a city on its steak houses or fried seafood platter joints is a joke.

To be honest, I couldn't figure out what you were going on about.

Listed diversity in the food scene and then the goal post was moved to unique food. You are requesting something from a city that very few in the nation live up to.

The truth is very few regular people give a frick about food and how unique it is. This board is a great example, there are a dozen "foodies" out of lord knows how many posters.

You might can accuse him of moving the goal posts in that manner, but the whole completely new cuisine argument doesn't hold water. And he makes a valid point. Does having a Taco Bell make a city have a Latin cuisine presence? Certainly that's an extreme example, but who gives a shite if you have 42 Chinese/Asian places and they are all located in strip malls with the order by picture menu? That's not diversity. Thus people get bored.

Chinese is about the only place I would say BR attempts and fails. Could be argued Omi delivers in that area.

I'm not going to argue that BR has any specific type of food that is amazing (Although I am searching for Pho in NOLA that is better than Sadec in BR, no conissouier of Pho admittedly). It has a solid restauranr base that pales to New Orleans which it is always compared to.

I bet I know where Sunday breakfast will be

You try Lilly's? Spicy Shrimp is killer. Kim Ahn's is also really good. Tan Dinh is really good, but I'm not about that Wank life.

Nah, havent really been on the troll for Pho yet. The wife loves the stuff so I usually defer to her.

Thay said I have no clue what good pho is supoosed to be. All this could be shite in comparison or the best ever made.

This sort of attitude of resignation is so frustrating. Austin didn't have a ton to offer 30 years ago. Furthermore, at that time Houston was strip mall hell and New Orleans had a handful of places all serving the same menu they had served for the past 100 years. All those places (and many others) have made tremendous strides during that timeframe, restaurant wise, while BR has barely creeped forward with folks saying, "well, WE could never do that HERE."

How sad.

Meh. I'm being realistic. I said a lot of good things about BR in my post and you chose to focus on the last paragraph.

No I mean it. It's legit. Some of the best ribs I've had.

ETA: I should say though I've only been there once.

I guess all I'm trying to say, though, is not that long ago, very few places were doing much intersting food-wise. Even New Orleans was quite stale. There's no reason Bayon Rouge shouldn't have at least a decent handful of places doing something really special by now. And this, we'll never be ____ attitude can be so limiting. I see it in other areas besides just food, but there are people trying to do otherwise, I suppose.

I would point FT in the right direction but he would just end up ordering jambalaya and then come back here to hate.

I seriously think you're on the hunt for the worst in the city so you can hold it up as the quintessential example of New Orleans culinary artistry.

Sorry NOLA doesn't have a Jambalaya Shoppe (to my knowledge)

Nah, wanted a hamburger and ordered a lunch for tomorrow at work that came with two sides.

Actually sounds good since it isn't trying to be a real jambalaya.

Baton Rouge has plenty, if you know where to look.

Rama
Thai Pepper
Delpit's Chicken Shack
Maison Lacour
Diguilio Bros.
Omi
9 Dragon Noodle House
Zorbas
Zea
Beausoleil
Dorothy's
Anthony's Italian Deli
Nino's
Sushi Yama
The Chimes
Parrains
Pinetta's
Mansur's
La Tiendita
La Morenita
Gino's

All the above are legit IMO.

I'm a fan of Fleur de Lis as well, not because the pizza is the best, because it's certainly not, but for the old-school ambiance.

Cheers
