If you were getting a new propane grill, would you get infrared?

It’ll be used for a novice to cook steak, chicken, etc.

It looks like the infrared is about $170 more at Lowe’s. Is it worth it?

Depends on the quality. True infrared searing can reach temps of over 1000 degrees.

I'd probably opt for something like a Lynx, which has a few tube burners and then one infrared searing burner.

I don't see Lynx at Lowe's. But from a quick google, it looks like more than I need

This is my first grill. I'm looking at char-broil or something similar

My FIL got it with his huge GE gas grill. It is not worth it.

In short, the only reason you'd need infrared is if you need to sear things quickly. And I'd bet the grills from Lowe's probably aren't true infrared anyway.

Stay away from all Char-Gril products. They start rusting away the day you get them, the stainless is just for show, the rest of it rusts quickly. Get a Weber, it will last many times longer.

This might be the best advice I ever got from the OB.

Since I can’t have an open flame I have one of those foreman outside electric grills. Nothing spectacular but is fine for chicken, burgers, etc.

I would get the nicest weber I could afford. It will last 25 years.

If all infrared means is that little extra grill with the tiny holes, skip it. Run fast, run far.

I had one for a few years. They are impossible to keep clean and fall apart when trying to do basic maintenance.

F that noise.

My char grill Infared is 3 years old and used 1-2 times a week with no issues. It gets up to 700 degrees for searing steaks with no problems. The only thing I changed were the grates from cas iron to stainless. I keep it under a patio and it’s got a cover. The bottom is ceramic so it won’t rust out like others.

That’s good to know

The Weber is just so much more expensive and I don’t even know how to grill yet

I bought a char-grill two burner infrared back in 2010 when I was still in college and I still use it weekly. I want a new weber gas grill or a Komado, but I cant justify it, until this char-grill dies.

I take good care of it though, covered patio w/ a cover on the grill. Clean it real good after every use...as with most things the way you take care of something will dictate how long it lasts.
