I don't really get it either. The magazine cover hearkens to Lady and the Tramp and the dating scene, not much else.
But on the food point, what does it matter if it doesn't make geographical sense if the food tastes good?

Probably the most subtle brag of ones knowledge of Italian culture I've seen in some time.

I suppose it matter if it's your food and cuisine that's being perversely represented, or excluded entirely.
If I serve a gumbo and it's jambalaya, does it matter that I call it gumbo? What if you're a Mexican. Does it matter that people think that Taco Bell is authentic Mexican cuisine? I suppose if you're a Mexican who takes their food and culture seriously, it matters, and exactly how difficult is it really to get it right?

I can relate. Don't even get me started on cream cheese in sushi.

I found it in words on paper sandwiched in between thick paper. Some call them books.

The Chinese laugh at us too.

I'm Indian, and if the magazine photo had a plate of tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, sambhar, and jalfrezi on the same plate, all deriving from different regions of one of the biggest countries on Earth and mislabeled them, it wouldn't offend me at all.

All I know is those meatballs look delicious... I bet they're at the Olive Garden

oh, it matters, it matters. I am still trying to figure out why the candle was on the table, the fricking Chinese invented candlemaking.

Then neither your food or culture must be very important to you when it's being so needlessly misrepresented.
I'll surely remember that the next time someone takes objection to someone misrepresenting Cajun or Creole cuisine In different parts of this very country. Not that that has ever happened here before.

Well of course, because all authentic Tuscan food like spaghetti and meatballs comes from Olive Garden by way of their infamous test kitchen in Tuscany.

Its best to not engage him, just laugh. It makes them feel good when you laugh.
